Im not really sure what the deal is with RC helis... granted drones did have a marked effect, but I think drones added alot of new flyers, but took a few away from helis and planks, and none of these drone fliers jumped from drones to helis...At my field, the youngest is in his late 20s, the oldest warms the bench and allows his plane to sun bathe. But we are not adding any new Heli flyers. New gear shows up and its maybe one or two guys whom are not even locals...For me, it was all about income and the desire to keep trying... there was all sorts of new stuff comming out first with the explosion in 450 class and low price point (E-SKY, Blade, E-flight), FBL, GPS, then the whole Lipo wars with who had the highest C rating... then Telemetry... New blade design, new motors from TRM, Hanson, If you didnt fly scorpion motors your were a weakling, Then the whole coreless/brushless servo speed/torque wars... all of this happened pretty much within a 8 year window. My guess starting around 2005 and tapering off in 2013.once the "wars" stopped and the magazines stopped promoting it all (and most of the good magazines died off), my desire to be on the bleeding edge died off with it.Now I fly once a month at best.showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
