Re-Lubing XERA 4020/2Y-1000 bearings after flushing clean
So I'm looking for a recommendation on what to re-lube the bearings with in my old XERA motor.

Apparently, while the heli was in flight after a hard maneuver, the shaft developed a little axial play and the pinion stripped a small section of my herringbone gear.

Upon landing I noticed the whole motor can/shaft had a little axial play.

I've opened the motor, flushed the bearings clean and they seem ok so I'm going to re-lube them and try the motor again.

I know Xera's normally don't need lubing very often (if at all) but in this case, I need to re-lube with something.

My choices on-hand are:

- Scorpion bearing lube (may not be the best option)
- Tri-Flow
- LaBelle plastic safe med weight oil

What is the latest consensus? Is there something new out that is superior to all those?

Thanks.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier just to change out with a new bearing?

Thanks for all the input.

I don't know how good that new dry fluid works. I used some dry fluid many years ago (RC car days in the 80's) and they weren't all that great.

Maybe after the new formulas are out for a while they will prove to be excellent.

The corrosion X stuff looks interesting but it does not say for high speed bearings (spinning 15,0000 - 25,000+RPM)

I think I'm going to do what Scott said and get new bearings.

Does anyone have a recommendation on really high quality sealed bearings?

I wonder if the Xera 4020-1000 uses the same size as the Xnova 4020-1000.

Does anyone know?

I see the pitting on the main shaft that you're talking about. That might be what caused the shaft to wobble and strip my gear.

I don't really want to mess with locktite so do you know if this Scorpion 4020 shaft is a direct, drop-in replacement?

Is this what you're talking about:

Not a problem

BTW
you might be able to get a shaft with a flat spot for your specific model at demonaero.com
- so this way you might have to make your own flat spot
- I usually order 2-3 at a time since this is a fairly common problem

Thanks.

I looked and they didn't have the 4020 shaft.

I ordered the Scorpion one from an online HS.

I've never changed a shaft before but I do have a small arbor press that should work to remove the old and install the new one.

I can dremel a flat spot so that shouldn't be an issue.
