Adding a clutch to electric xtreme
For the next project (dauphin) I will be installing xtreme mechanics with fenestron. I have an actor 32-4 lying around with 8mm shaft. I am wondering if I could add a clutch to motor. I see that east cost has a motor mount but not sure what clutch would fit the motor

I run that exact same setup on my Cobra with Benzin mechanics.. simple to do. I use belt and pulley from "Stock Drive Products "Home of the "Sea Cobra".....

The stock Xtreme clutch works great, I have it on my EC135. My motor has an 8mm shaft. Joe sells the clutch adapter for the motor.

thanks
coptercptn - I have done this on Benzin but I was not sure how the clutch bell looks on xtreme mechanics. The X-treme kit that includes fenestron and 4 blade head does not come with any clutch components.

Would the clutch from xtreme nitro setup work and how about pulley ? Is it part of clutch (like benzin) or it could be changed ?

Barry - do you have any pictures of your setup ?

I machined a custom motor mount and used a shorter belt to move the motor back, but the concept is still the same. I'm on work travel, so I don't have the heli with me. But looking at the pics, I just realized that the Xtreme clutch uses a split collet. So you need a custom motor shaft to use that clutch. You may be able to just use a benzin clutch with Joe's adapter. In which case, all you'll need is a motor with an 8mm shaft.

thanks Barry
I do have a benzin clutch with 22T pinion. As long as Xtreme uses same type of belt and pinion to provide gearing for fenestron, I am good I guess. When I order mechanics, I will ask Joe about it.

Thanks for pictures and taking time to reply

You're very welcome. The Benzin and some versions of the Xtreme use an XL belt for primary drive. The vario electric conversion (871/100) for the Xtreme uses either a 3M or XL belt for primary drive, so be careful what you order. You may be able to use Joe's electric conversion on the Xtreme and his Benzin clutch adapter, with a couple of simple mods. I believe that you'll have to space the motor out a bit to allow the belt to line up properly. See the pics for the differences between the split collet and benzin style clutch spacing. Or you can always just go direct drive pulley on the motor.

Hi
Looks like I may get away with what I have. I dug up the vario treasure and found me an old benzin clutch, brass collet . I am using xL belts so guessing this should do fine . Thanks

Yeah, the only difference is that the standard brass collet for the Benzin clutch has a tapered ID that fits the taper on the gasser motor crankshaft. Joe sells the correct adapter for the electric shaft.
