It looks great. I was already planning to reduce my fleet to just one EP helicopter (the rest being glow) and this looks like the one!

In the first pictures from Shizuoka the tailservo was mounted in the frame but in the latest pictures It's mounted at the tailboom. Probably a good thing if you want to change the cg. Wonder what the finished product will come with?

It would be nice if Hirobo would offer a version of this helicopter with a flybarred head. Not everyone likes or wants FBL.

Given the high mounted boom support rods and the long rails for the battery tray, can we assume battery can be removed from the rear?

That would be a big plus or leap in electrics...for me.

Yes, you would need long leads to the ESC but not having to remove a canopy is great.

It would be nice to have Hirobo helicopters again. There was a time almost all my heli's were Hirobo. That was back in the MRC days.

I bet it is way more expensive than a EVO or STX.
I just picked up a new old Shuttle and a EVO-50. Going back and trying some Classic Heli's. Always had fun with them.

I was keen but it is more than $1000 for the kit so it kinda counts me out as I don’t really love electric enough to spend that much.

As a comparison the last electric kit I bought was a JR Vibe NEX E8 for about $360, which I would argue is a much nice helicopter.

I’m a bit dissapointed with Hirobo’s pricing but not overly surprised.

I've had mine for about a month now and it's exactly what you would expect from Hirobo. Perfectly made parts and a well thought out design.

What I would say is that it's really a shrunken 600 than a true 550. Even the stickers in the box have a 600 option. The beauty of it is that nearly all the normal Sceadu and Eagle upgrade parts will fit so you can easily convert it into a 700 if you really wanted. I do believe we will see a range of "Gigas" models based on the same central chassis.

The battery tray does indeed come out the back, so no need to remove the canopy to change the battery. The main gear is machine cut not molded. Fit and finish of the parts is first rate Japanese quality.

As for the pricing, I was surprised when I first saw the list price and thought twice about ordering.. but having built it I think it was worth every penny. I also had to wait as the first 3 batches of kits from the factory were all sold out already even before they'd shipped the first kit!

This is were I might get on my high horse a little bit.. but the hobby faced a real "rush to the bottom" in terms of pricing during the mid 2000's. Whilst that brought lots of people into the hobby (who then got bored and left) it meant most established manufacturers of high quality products couldn't compete. When they did try they made so little money they went out of business. Before this £1000 for a kit was the norm and you didn't even get a painted canopy or any carbon parts! Thankfully Hirobo is big enough that it's survival doesn't depend on the hobby market which means it can continue to produce Japanese made high quality products for those who want that level of engineering. Looking at the number they've sold so far it appears there are enough people out there who want that.. a model which required no updates or upgrades out the box and will run and run for a long time without wearing out.

Long may Hirobo continue to make these fantastic models. If that means they have to charge top dollar to make a profit then so be it. I'd rather that than the alternative...

Mark I think what you’ve said is pretty wise.

I may look at a version of the helicopter in the future but at the moment I just dont have the money. I will only buy helicopters from Hirobo, JR or Quest now as to me they are the nicest models to own and I believe they’ve put in the hard yards over the years in improving quality, handling and reliability.
