600 Tail Boom in 550L
Hi,

I am considering upgrading my 550L to a 600 boom for aesthetic reasons. Is this a good idea? Will it change the flight characteristics and would I have to make adjustments to the settings? I fly sport F3C style. No hard 3D.

As far as I can see, there are 3 types of 600/550 boom, aluminum H60042, carbon HN6097 and matte carbon H60T003XXW. I am inclined to go with basic aluminum H60042 because it costs the least. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? The 600 boom brace is H60052A. The 600 tail torque tube unit is H60252A.

The real confusion is the carbon tail control rod assembly. The 600L, 600e and 550 PRO DFC all use the 626mm length H60221 while the 550X uses a slightly longer 631mm H55T007XXW. Which one should I get?

Lastly, will the 550X canopy fit the standard 550L mounts?

Thanks!

Yes the boom fits no problem, you need the 550x pushrod, and the canopies are identical fit, however the 550x canopy is paper thin, and the paint cracks very easily.

Which boom?
Okay got it. The 550X pushrod is the correct length. Now which tail boom is best? I am inclined to go with aluminum because it is cheapest and so far by experience is very reliable. I am curious about the carbon. Is it worth trying? Also, which carbon is better, the normal or the matte finish?

The carbon one is ally with a thin layer of carbon wrapped around it.
Both work fine, but you will be able to run a little more tail gain with the ally one.

Aluminum boom and 550X pushrod
Ok sounds like this is the way to go together with 550X/ 600 boom supports. Thanks!

Will 600 blades work on the 550L with a 600 tail boom?
I have all the parts needed to convert. So far I have installed only the 550X/ 700X landing gear. Next will be the 600 tail boom and mechanicals. My question is, can I use 600 main rotor blades without changing the gearing? I'm using the stock motor and ESC and 6S. Thanks!

You could do that, but would then be back to the original T600 E, that used to eat Lipo's for a pass time. That is why they produced the 550, and changed the 600 to 12S
