Align DS615 Servo
If a DS615 servo detects a problem, will it give off a warning beep?

I had trouble flying my 700 yesterday, I heard an alarm with was coming from the cyclic servo areas. The Helo would not spin up either.

I am getting ready to check it out and thought I would ask.

I am pulling out the rear cyclic servo as it definetly has gear problems. I will put a new gear kit in it and go from there.

The noise was no where near my Castle or Gyro, no blinking lights or anything.

Something I have never experienced before.

The Align DS-615 servos do not beep
They do not have "intelligence" and they do not do a power on self test (POST)

If something is beeping, it isn't the servos.

It has to be the ESC, maybe it's the way the ESC is positioned.

That's the area the beeps were coming from, the motor is right next to the servo's.

You might have a point, I just never heard of or know of an alarm beep warning on either.

But there were 4 of us trying to locate the source!

Had all of us baffled. None have heard that type of warning beep.

Arming ESC
From what I know, When the ESC arms, the motor usually emits beeps. I could be wrong though.

Yes it does, but these were continuous 6 beeps with a short pause that didn't quit.

Nor would the motor spool up.

Motor beeping
Okay that happened to me on my TRex 550L. I have a Castle Talon 90 ESC and the stock Align RCM-BL730MX motor. I have a thread here somewhere. Basically, those beeps are signals from the ESC but emitted by the motor. In this case, the ESC senses the voltage of the battery and the six beeps represent '6S'. They are a pattern used for initializing, programming and arming the ESC. Read the manual of the ESC. It's a bit confusing but you should be able to figure it out eventually. You will need to set the throttle endpoints in your transmitter before you can get your motor to work. I have a Futaba T14SG and I watched a lot of YouTube and posting on RR before I sorted it out.

Here is my thread

The only thing, all was working and flying fine, then last Sunday I attempted to fly the Helo. This is when the continous beeps stared, plus it never spooled up. All batteries are good.

Bind receiver
If you didn't touch anything yet, try to re bind your receiver. Otherwise, you might need to re initialize your ESC and set the throttle endpoints. It's not difficult to do. What transmitter do you have?

Many people mistakenly think that the beeps they hear come from the ESC..... The beeps you hear come from the motor.....Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

I think I learned this from your comment in my other post.

YOU ARE CORRECT, it's the MOTOR!

You can actually feel pulses in the motor when it's beeping.

Sometimes it's 1 beep, pause, then 3 beeps.

Next time it's 2 beeps, pause, 2 beeps

Another time it was: 1 beep, pause, then 3 beeps

I have search all over for an answer. I have reset, recalibrated, and anything else I could find that's related.

It was working great and Sunday I plugged it up and it started doing this.

I guess I will call Castle tomorrow.

It's a Castle Edge 120 HV

I am somewhat embarrassed. I called Castle today and they were more than helpful.

He listened to the beeping alarm on the phone and knew where to check. The ESC was trying to communicate with the motor, but the motor was detecting full throttle!

Somewhere, somehow, the polarity was switched. I am not quite sure where, it could be the Skookum, or it could be my radio.

After reversing the throttle on the radio, and checking everything in the Castle, the motor will spool up now. All functions are operating normally, except the Skookum software.

But it's not right as my Skookum data switch now shows the throttle reversed! I have not figure out how to correct this.

I didn't make any adjustments other than to my throttle curve. The reverse switch is in a different area on the JR9503.

Now I have to figure out why the Skookum is now reading backwards. I was thinking about just starting up with a new model as it's really not that hard, but I would like to correct it through the Skookum 720 first.

Thanks, Dennis, and let me know if you have an idea of the new issue now.

Delete old model and start over.
This happened to me before and it turned out to be a good solution. Just delete the old model, create a new model and bind the receiver again before you start over. It is important to delete the old model from the transmitter memory.

Better yet - get rid of the Skookum

They haven't kept pace with the state of FBL development and their customer support is nonexistent.

At one point, I had 3 SK520, 2 SK720 + GPS
I sold them all at a loss and bought MSH Brains

It could well the that the Skookum reversed the throttle channel. You were lucky the CC Edge has a fail-safe for that.

I can't quite state the above. I agree their heart is not in the 720's anymore, but they will try and help you if you have an issue.

I have a 720 being repaired by them as we speak, I do realize it might be a few months before I get it back.

Personally, I still like the Skookum's, but who knows what the future holds.

I will study the MSH Brain as one of my good friends just switch to this unit.

If I had to wait a few months before I got my FBL back from repair, I would consider that "nonexistent" customer support.

That's why I am studying other systems. I guess I will use them until there just not available any more.
