Giving the Creek a lift
With all the excitement of last weeks sling load at work I kinda got fired up up do some of my own. its been a while since ive lifted anything with the hawk and this is its first time as an electric. All went well til a very funny sound and loss of power forced me to release the load and make an emergency landing fortunately without any damage to either machine.

It was the main drive gear getting chewed up by the pinion gear. See, I recently changed the pinion to a 10 tooth and I guess the mesh wasn't quite where it needed to be so at the most inopportuned moment it decided to let loose while up high in fwd flight. As for the TH67, I waited for it to be just about on the ground before releasing it so it suffered no damage. Anyway, a new main gear installed and a full battery in a hover has my confidence coming back that it will stay together.drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

Good catch Emile! Sometimes we're just seconds away from disaster. Funny noises usually mean that "not so funny" things are about to happen...

They do talk to you!!!
It might be a sound, a twitch, or just a feeling... if your listening, and put it on the ground, right now, they will live to scare the hell out of you another day!!!
Great catch Emile!!!

The culprit gear. There were teeth stripped in several spots. This gear has been flying in this machine for over ten years.
