Another AS 350 Build...
Brooklyn Jim had to post this for sale and I finally couldn't resist any longer, so I grabbed it up...
I will say this for the kit/mechanics... they are definitely not the "norn" we/I am used to... downloaded the manual and went at it.. started Saturday for awhile and then yesterday... in setting up the BD 3x I found that I needed to change some of the dimensions given in the manual to make things come in properly...nothing bad or hard, but it made me think!!!
Overall, I am quite pleased with this model and hope to get some test hovering in by the end of the week....

Read Yours!!
tailkiller,
I went through your thread and tintmaster too!!
So far my first spool up today on the table didn't show any signs of a shake...I did change out the main shaft bearings and the tail drive shaft ones, before I even started the assembly.., the ones in it were a vrry poor quality, with almost a 1/16" movement at the top of the main shaft!!
It is smooth on the table when spinning by hand, but it makes a lot more noise then I expected... head feels good, and haven't gotten to checking the blades yet..
Will let you know how it goes later in the week.,,

That's one good looking AS350 bud! I'm sure you'll work your way through the bugs in the build. Those mechs are noisy, but they are reliable.

A while back a bunch of us were building bell 407's, looks like now we are having an A-Star party. my A-Star posts have been pretty quiet n slow but I may get it going again.
Stan my friend, I have no doubt that A-Star will be a masterpiece (it looks really nice already) when you are thru with it.

Votes Of Confidence!!!
Thanks everyone for the support!!!!
Well, I got a little further today..
Got the tail boom mounted.. that was interesting.. felt like a one armed paper hanger!!!
Everything is mounted and the loctite is curing along with some glue and stuff!!!
I also included a picture with some very specialized heli tools that you absolutely need to build scale!!
Weighed each blade and they were all dead nuts at 136.2, so I am please with that.. setting up the ESC it seems it likes a 1350 hs... I have read some are running in the 1400's, so time will tell...
I did spool it up in the shop (no blades :eek and all seems to run smooth so far... if the wind lays down a bit tomorrow, I may just need to test pop her...it is going to need nose weight... haven't got to that yet, but first job in the morning.....
Will let you know how it goes!!!

Looking good. It will take a lot of nose weight. You can hot glue lead shot in the instrument panel.,Dennis

Thanks!!
Yep, it is going to need quite a bit to get this guy balance... but I have plenty of lead and stuff I can stick to it... tools and rocks and maybe the cat
These blades came painted as you see them, but when I do paint them I use automotive Duplicolor.. spray bombs, but the tip gives an excellent pattern, and the paint dries quickly.. just shoot light even coats to keep the weights as close as possible... I spray the bottoms flat black... if you need to add weight to a blade, just shoot more flat black on the bottom..
Now to come up with some nice graphics!!!

Progress..
Got the lead shot and epoxy added yesterday to get the C/G correct.. wired up the new 6s batt's, still need to add the airborne battery.. final check the BD 3X and wait for the "breeze" to slow down a bit for the test hops..
Then I can move onto the added little touches...

Stan

Stock blades thoughts from any that have used them... the cord looks a bit narrow to me, but I am used to Spin Blades and wide cords!!! (????)

Stan, when I first got mine I hovered the stock blades for a couple mins n I concluded that I could see why a stab unit is recommended with these kits. But I've seen them perform seemingly flawlessly with a proper unit, remember Donnie's 412 at top gun? Quality wise they look fine. I used heavier blades with no stabilization but u know me ;-)drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

INFO...
Thanks Emile...

I will give these a try once the wind lays down... beautiful day out, it's just hard to stand up or the testing would have begun!!!
Those that know me, know the wind has to be going pretty good to slow me down..
Emile, I am running the PNP head with the stock blades and a BD 3X so I will give them a try...I do remember seeing Donnie's fly and I know that Joel's machines all look smooth as silk!! (I think Joel could make a brick fly smoooooothly though!!! )

Thanks, Stan
