Scary
Do you think Align has issues with quality control of their products?

I never used too but I just built a 470 also and one of the main blades you can just about move it in the blade grip , not yet measured it up to see if blade or grip needs material removed .

I think this is why the RED gears have been introduced? My personal and unsubstatiated feelings are that the attempt to toughen up the gear material have made them more abrasive and wear-prone under higher speeds, poor alignment or inadequate mesh. This is being discussed on other sites too.

Yes some thing has changed as I been flying Align many years with this set up and only ever had to replace these gears if I hit the tail .
You could be correct by trying to use a harder material they actually wear faster .
I believe Align changed the black gear material since they got back into producing Heli's again as even my tail box gears have worn and there's a light white dust that comes off the material .
Also I've only done 60 flights maximum and my tail box is like it's done 1000 flights on a 700 nitro !

Probably not a bad idea in the interim to use some sort of plastic safe grease like a silicone on a regular basis.

Problem with grease is that it attracts dust/dirt like crazy and then increases premature wear....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Silicone spray will help but there's a bigger problem than them just needing lubrication

was the tt seated properly? no play between the two gears that may have caused this?

Yes was a brand new kit and tail box is pre built .
Seems Align have now just released a stronger plastic gear housing , obviously they know there's a problem

Part number
Would you know if there is a new part number for the updated gearbox or gears? I have built but not flown my T-Rex 700X and would like to update it prior to flight, if that is the case.

Could the gear have been weakened by a previous touch of the tail on the ground?

Gyro settings can also cause tail gear failure.

100% no , tail has not been any where near floor on mine
I'm pretty sure it's these later 700x cases are just not strong enough .
Unless you fly hard with tail and load it u will not have an issue

I guess it's the huge power the new motors are putting out. Was never a problem with the old 700 or 750MX motors and that was with the original white tail gears! But back then 2100 rpm was considered high. These days if your not running 2300 rpm you won't get as many views on YouTube!

I believe they now use 4.43 tail ratio (23T (red), 102T vs. 22T, 104T) which will reduce the load on the tail gears when running high head speeds.

60% of the time, it works every time!
