Help needed with Phonenix Sim
So I have just splashed a little cash and bought myself a nice new laptop (thank you black Friday) and my first thought was I need to put Phoenix sim on here for when I'm away from home.

I used the original disc which is a very old version of the sim and then manually downloaded the latest version of it, however when I try to start the sim I am now getting a "missing .dll" (as shown in photo) message coming up.

I am not really sure what to do about this so if anyone knows what I need to download or do that would be great.

I have already reinstalled everything and I am still getting the same message.

The new laptop is a Hp 15-ay167sa running the latest Gen Intel i5 with windows 10. I'm not sure if this information is necessary but if it helps figure the problem out at least it is there.

many thanks for taking a look, appreciated as always.

I was not successful trying to install Phoenix 4 on Windows 10. It did install on Win 7 and 8. You might try calling Horizon Hobby Tech Support to see if there is a work around."Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground." J. Taylor

The problem is that your new laptop never had DirectX 9 installed on it and that missing dll is part of this older version. You new laptop likely only has DirectX 12 on it.

Try this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dow...x?id=35&nowin10

Runs fine in Windows 10. My copy is an original 1.04j version which has been upgraded as updates are rolled out.

I have it installed on a Win 10 desktop and a Win 10 laptop. Both PCs started out life as Win 7 machines. Even the Win 10 update didn't affect it.

.......and that is why it worked for you Dave even though both of your machines are Win10 now.

A brand new Win10 machine will not have DirectX 9 files on it. Because you upgraded along the way, you didn't have the problem. You likely have dlls from DirectX 9 through 12 on your desktop/laptop.

BlueFlyer would likely only have DirectX 12, maybe some version 11 files, but would not have any DirectX 9 files on his brand new Win10 laptop....unless you install them manually.

That is a very good way to get a virus... I would rather see you d/l and install directx 9 for win10. DLL = dynamic link library. Most likely there are several more files than that single file shown in the video necessary to complete the system.

These files are system level files and a very good way to get viruses. So be careful where you download them from.

As I recall, when installing from the original disk, the option to load DirectX9 is included during the process.

In any event, the SW is readily downloaded and installed.

I am good now. I tried Phoenix4 again, this time "Run as Administrator" and it went right in and worked like charm. I did have the option to install Directx9 and said yes to both of those choices.

Glad I gave it another try. Thanks to all.

You should now have a clear path to upgrade all the way to the current version.-----

true but if one of those sites can give you a virus your PC is probably full of them if you don't know the difference.

I have never had a problem downloading and using a dll file and most of the time no other file was needed.
