Where have all the heli's gone
Just got my Tower Hobbies. No heli's what so ever. Local hobby shops have stopped selling them. Aeroworks closed down. How can we get interest back into the old hobby instead of Drones/

Well, If you don't have what you want for a heli by now, You may be out of luck. It doesn't seem they are make anything new. Goblin seems to be the hottest seller right now.
I prefer the Logos they are still fairly strong. I haven't seen much for new helis!
Maybe check out rborts new Whiplash gasser. Looks quit interesting!

Ironically, the selection at Tower was crap 15 years ago . . . I really didn't think it could have gotten any worse . . .Friends don't let friends become electrotarded . . . .

My friend hobby shops are going to vanish like electronic stores. People go to the hobby shop to see the product and later buy it on line. It is cheaper, No Taxes and in many cases free shipping and if you wait for a holiday you get 10 to 20% discount.

If my local hobby shop has what I need or can order it for me that day and have it in a few more days I do try to support him even though he is a straight msrp retailer

Goblin, synergy, align, mikado, guai, Oxy,
Don't forget JR, Heinseleit, Diablo, MS Heli, Heli Professional and E-Flight!

But you are right it is leaning more towards drones these days and if the FPV goggles weren't so ridiculously expensive ide be having a shot at FPV too! The racing certainly looks fun and crashes can cost you pence if anything at all!

I'd suspect that drones and fpv will eventually top off and there will be nothing much to add to them. I think if the top heli manufacturers hang in there for the long haul a lot of people will catch the drift again or venture into something more challenging(heli).
All in time is what I'm thinking. Drones have grown and grown ridiculously fast very quickly.
I'd be interested in an fpv racing quad/drone. That drl drone racing looks fun. But no other Rc will come between me and my carbon fiber killing machines.

I miss flying my helis but I just don't have the time like I used to and now that I have some nice drones/uavs/whatever you want to call them, I'm having a ton of fun and spend literally nothing on repairs and I never crash. All I spend $ on seems to be more batteries. I just charge and fly. If helis ever get close to this I will be back in a heartbeat. I know that is blasphemy to you loyal builders and tinkerers, but it's just not for me and apparently many other hobbyists.I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

Hobbies being what they are, they will wax and wane over time. I don't think it is fair to say totally that mfgs are not coming out with new(er) stuff.
seems to me that there is a lot of fill in sizes coming out from most manufacturers. I just won a Trex 470 Dominator kit at my last fun fly in Rockdale last month. Mikado has a new 700, and those are just two of the ones i am interested in.

My vision is that all these inexpensive FPV multi rotor helis will start to fade, and can lead those to go ahead and get into our end of the hobby. I see where MA is starting their comeback.

So there are some exciting things on the horizon. If we, as the base can hold everything together, maybe we will start to see an influx of new heli hobbyist.

I'm not sure I would use Tower as the basis to gauge the heli industry. There are plenty of major players still out there. It just happens that the pool is now being shared with multi-rotors.

When I first started out, Tower was my go-to for all things Thunder Tiger. I miss those days and their strong product support. I got my first Raptor on their 'scratch n dent' with box damage only and never looked back.

taking risks can lead to rewards..
As stated above "I'm having a ton of fun and spend literally nothing on repairs and I never crash" is like saying all I have to do is press the red button on my sim radio and I have a new heli..learning to fly heli's is hard..that's what makes it worthwhile. Lets face It..alot of Americans are lazy and unmotivated; heli's are still real popular in Europe because they like to push their limits more Imho.

When I bought my first quad, a Blade 350, a couple of years ago, it was fun to fly, but only took a month to get bored with it. No challenge in flying it at all. Back to the helis.

I recently got my first 'quad'. It's a little Sharper Image $33 rtf from Walmart and it flys absolutely great- no joke. It's been a blast indoors now with our winter weather setting in and my daughter enjoys it. Heck, even my wife is trying to learn with it! As much as I enjoy it, it is no substitute for my helis and doesn't give me anywhere near the rush or sensation I get when flying traditional RC helis.
