I have an early trex 500 (blue and white canopy) and have the opportunity to get a complete 500l dominator head to make a flybarless upgrade. Is it a direct drop in without problems? Thanks!

Nothing is without problems anymore. Chances are you can make it work but it may require some gasping for air and head scratching.

For example you will need a shorter main shaft for the flybarless head. Also, some different linkage rods will be needed from the swashplate to the blade holders.

You'll also require a flybarless receiver/controller such as AR7210BX or iKon, Vbar, etc.

Put the head on first and see what length of rods will be needed to go from the swash up to the blade grips.

It is not a done deal that the main shaft has to be shorter to go flybarless. I didn't do it when converting my T-rex 450 or my Logo 500.

My 500 upgrades were drop in replacements on knock off clones of the Trex500. Of course, you need the FBL unit as said previously. I have another one to do now.

thank you all for your replies. I have a VBar mini that will be going in the heli. The dominator flybarless head is complete with shaft and all.

To answer your question, yes it is not a problem to convert the head with dominator parts. I did it and works great. I had a standard FBL head and did not like it. It looked too bulky. Just make sure you change all the necessary parts. Blade grips, main shaft, FBL head, Dominator links. I also upgraded the swash plate, but not necessary. It is very important to use the correct main shaft. There are 4 different main shafts for the Trex 500.
