Yes I did use the supplied USB cable. I used the female end of the ProgUNIT and connected a 2xMale to it and the Master Port on the JIVE. I was able to run the Update program for the ProgUNIT and it found it, no matter what I do I can't seem to get the JIVE to be seen, that's why I'm asking if there's an LED on the JIVE - I see a place above the BLACK MAINS lead where it says LED, but I have no idea if that's a button or what it is. When I connect my flight pack to the JIVE it does power the ProgUNIT with it connected to the Master Port.

I think it's my battery
I checked the flight pack and its at storage charge level - I'm going to charge it tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Yes EEngineer - I downloaded the correct software for Windows - that video is worth a billion words! Thank You!

Dingo, somewhere on YT there's probably a video that will
show what you need to do with your Jive.

I've only done it with the Kosmiks using both the old ProgDisc and the new ProgUnit.

Ensure that you have updated the firmware on the PU(or PD).
PU = Version 1.0, PD = Version 1.11
And use K-Konfig version 1.2.1

Here's the link to the Kon S/W and updates:
http://www.kontronik.com/en/downloads.html

I have noticed that on all the YT vids, one executes the update/K-Konfig S/W prior to powering up the Kon....i.e.

a) invoke the update/K-Konfig S/W

b) Using a "fully charged" batt pack, power up the Kos(in your case, the Jive 120)

c) Connect the PU(or PD) to the ESC master port using a M/M servo extension lead(the Kon toroid cable works perfect)....and wait for the LED.

d) Now connect the PU(or PD), via the USB cable, to your PC.

e) If the "drivers" have been properly installed(it may ask you to install them at this time), you should hear the "USB sound" and the "update button" on the update S/W will appear "active"(or the K-Konfig S/W will update its display)

f) Press "update"....and after doing so....DO NOT....under any circumstances touch the PC at all....until the update finishes.

f2) The most common way to "hang" an update is to touch ANYTHING on the PC until it finishes....

Hope this helps.

Without getting too involved with software and all, if I take a fully charged flight pack - a 12S 5000mAh Pulse 65C - and plug it into the JIVE (no motor connected, jumper on outside pins, ProgUNIT connected to Master Port), should I see the LED and see it boot like that video?

I presume the answer is YES

well all I get is the LED on the ProgUNIT flashing - I get absolutely nothing else

I think this unit is half dead, unless I'm doing something wrong... which I'm thinking how much simpler can this get!?!

Hey, Dingo

Here's the link to the Jive Pro 120+ HV:

http://www.kontronik.com/fileadmin/...en/JIVE_Pro.pdf

It shows a funky looking jumper cable(mis-print?)....on my Jive 80 HV's, it's a simple 3-pin jumper. Perhaps that video shows a different Jive, my mistake if so.

At any rate, Section 7 of the above manual describes the process.
In this case, the jumper is removed....not moved....as described.

In order to hear the programming tones, the motor must be connected as the tones are emitted by the motor.

Just did a Kos S/W update(to V10) and I had the motor connected.

It'll be a simple mistake.

The Pro uses an multipin jumper because its port is allows the slot for Tellme, etc. You still pull it out as you did with the previous Jives to get into programming mode.

Thanks guys, with or without the motor connected I get nothing. I don't have the PRO, mine's a 3 pin connector and my jumper is 2 pin.

I'm beginning to think I purchased a dead JIVE 120+ HV

Was this one old stock but new or used?

Is your throttle channel set to normal or reversed?

You might want to try reversing the throttle channel and then redoing the reset. Some guys don't realize a Kontronik could care less about throttle channel reversing and do it anyway before set up like you do with a CC. If it was originally set up with a reversed throttle channel, it won't want to do anything when it sees your unreversed throttle (for safety reasons).

Try that.

But Dr.Ben, shouldn't I get the LED as soon as I plug in a LiPo? with nothing else connected, at the very least it should boot and do something with the LED, correct?

reversing the throttle does nothing

I would think so. I said what I did because it was the cause of an issue with a friend's esc. With yours being used and acting totally dead, it does concern me that something is very wrong.

I may be asking something buried in the thread, but when it's plugged in, is there output from its BEC?

Yes Dr.Ben, there is 5.6v output from the BEC

I have emails in to both Germany and USA tech support, whichever gets back to me first, I'll keep you all posted...

Dingo, I wish you would have mentioned that the unit was "used"....and perhaps "abused".
