I've been out of the Windows laptop game for quite a while and was wondering if anybody was using a inexpensive tablet for firmware updates on radios and such. More to the point I have a futaba radio and gyro that need updating using a CIU-3 I would also like to exparement with my bump controller using Bluetooth. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking to do anything other than the occasional updates and control my charger so cheaper is better in this case.

Thanks,
Mike

With black Friday coming up, check with your cell carrier, they may have something cheap or free, that's how I got mine. Of course it wasn't really free since I pay monthly for the mobile contract, but I needed it for times like now when I'm stuck at a dock waiting to be unloaded and want to waste time on forums, lol. And it may be just as cheap to get a new low end windows laptop to use, I got a halfway decent one for about $300 on sale, and I know I saw cheaper ones when I was looking.

"Whadda ya mean "There's a loose nut behind the transmitter!"?"

Funny I know what you mean I'm sitting on anchor waiting to get loaded it's easy to spend money when you are board. I guess I was a little vague when I asked the question what I really wanted to know are the cheap Windows tablets capable of performing these tasks like updating my futaba gear. Or will I be better served just getting cheap laptop. It truly sucks nobody writes code for Mac it would make my life much easier. I thought about using boot camp on one of my machines but am leaning towards a tablet to keep with my rc gear.

Thanks,
Mike

I had an HP Stream 7" that ran Windows that worked just fine. Cheap as well, about $100 on Amazon at the time. Just have to make sure that it can run full Windows, not RT or some other limited version. I have been looking into getting a Microsoft Surface to do just this. The 3 with Windows 8 or 10 should work.

I have an IRULU Walknbook V2 running full Windows 10 that I am very happy with. Cost me $165.00, have been using for almost a year now.

Thanks for the replies. When I get off this ship I'm going to bestbuy and get a disposable tablet. I just wasn't sure if any where running full Windows versions or not I guess Google would have been my friend.

Do tablets have the correct type of USB port that most devices need when being upgraded?

That was a big plus with the IRULU, has a full size and mini USB port along with wifi and Bluetooth. Can work as a tablet or laptop with detachable keyboard.
