No DIY night blades? Never seen anyone have a issue with them? Are there any documented incidents of DIY night blades being a danger? If you cant trust DIY blades, then how can you trust one to assemble their own heli and fly at the event as they are not manufacturer built?Still buyin' and flyin' then crashing and cryin'

What triggered this NO DYI NIGHT BLADES.
IMHO, that is crapola. Plenty of perfectly good factory blades that have been converted to night blades using techniques posted on here and HF. Many much brighter and better lit than factory blades.

. Do not bring DIY night blades as we do not feel they meet the safety standards set by factory manufactured night blades.
I found that to be bunch of bull. Although I have not done any night flying in the last year I can say the blades I have flown made by a local guy have ALWAYS been brighter than 90% of the OEM blades out there. Not only that but they have custom colors to my specification, and they have never failed in 4+ years either.

I consider this rule a bit tyrannic.

Unfortunately like most I disagree with you telling people that their will be No DIY night Blades allowed. First off, DIY blades are manufactured Blades that actually fly, simply modified with copper tape, lights and batteries. Manufactured night blades are composed of both carbon and fiberglass, which makes them fly like **** and are way more expensive.

If you want my opinion, the more rules and regulations you put on us members/pilots, you're only hurting the Event and the IRCHA membership as a whole. Take a look at this years attendance, almost half of what it was in past years. So if you want more of the same, by all means impose additional rules and regulations and less and less will attend IRCHAs one and only event. Soon IRCHA will be a thing of the past and those who support you will find other venues to attend, or fields to gather and fly.

Helicopters are MANUFACTURER ONLY TERRITORY????
Having been in AMA since 1964 and having flown freeflight, speed, rat racing, goodyear, combat, stunt, gliders, real modelers scratch build, innovate, custom build, kit build, the whole range of modeling. So why is it the model helicopter pilot is being told he is too stupid to make create or build any part or all of his aircraft and can't bring it, fly it at HIS SIG EVENT unless it is a manufacturer's product. Keep it up IRCHA, go ahead kill the event and the fun. And if AMA is behind this, they better get over in the freeflight & speed circles where some purist still build their own props, engines and any number of other devices used on their aircraft.

Time for us heli pilots to scrounge thru our parts boxes and build the gawd awfullest "frankencopters" wood blades, mixed parts, home made battery packs, with flash lights zip tied or gorilla glued to them and fly them all week long in their heli Nazi faces.

bring it on Heli Guys, I want to see a SYNGOBRAPREXVIBE with Kyosho lighted foam night blades next year.

^^^Agree 100%

....well it sounds like you all are gonna end up with some sort of "pirate" event for true modelers...

Future IRCHA events will all be simulated on a jumbotron... for your protection.
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

"we need to look at safety, a Heli flew into the crowd last year."

"So you're saying we should ban homemade night blades?"

All snarkiness aside,
I have heard of no incident involving a night flight failure. Yes I'm aware that my ignorance of such an incident doesn't mean it didn't occur.

I did see a Heli (with manufacturer made night blades) throw a blade battery on spool up. Just because a manufacturer made it, doesn't mean it's been assembled properly.

The end user is ultimately responsible for the flying condition of the aircraft.

I'm also wondering where this is all heading.

This is exactly what is going to happen. Our group has already begun to discuss our options. That is roughly 10 to 20 people from around the country. Way to go AMA and IRCHA. You are killing off your membership. I am still not sure what the hell, IRCHA actually does, besides the jamboree.

No diy night blades bahaha...

Sounds like we will be flying right next to the spot lighters

Is there a vendor pushing a new set of blades or something

If they want they can give me a new set to fly... My old cracked/nicked up rotor techs will be flying otherwise.

How about rehabbed blades?
take your old dead battery MS COMPOSITES and hook up a 1S lipo from the foam park model airplanes and they are brighter than they ever were new. A battery, some GOOP a few tiny wires soldered to the old pins VOILA!!!! MANUFACTURER NIGHT BLADES,

DIY Blade Update
In the original post above the preclusion to DIY night blades has been removed. You will still be able to use DIY night blades.

We hope this comes as good news to those of you interested in DIY blades.

What is the definition of "official" and "proper" as associated with main blades? Why not just remove all such language from the announcement?
