Hi guys,

Is it possible that a brushless servo with 560Hz won't wag with a high gain.

I can't get the tail gain high enough to make the tail wag on a new heli. I'm trying to tune in the tail, but the gain isn't doing anything. At this point I've tried just about everything. I'm using a Torq BL9288 tail servo running at 8.4V set at 560HZ Frequency rate. The center pulse is 760.

I can see the percentage change on the Ikon screen and it matches my DX9 radio settings. The tail holds ok at 2600 RPMs and even better at 2850 RPM's (governor mode), but raising the gain does nothing. I have raised the gain to 100% and haven't noticed a difference.

Erm why are you wanting it to wag? You said yourself it's holding ok.

These new high speed servos won't wag at high gains in a hover but they will in fast forward flight and it is in FFF where you should be tuning.

I find a good way to check tail gain without flying the model is to rotate the heli after the gyros have initialized and see how far you have rotated the heli before your reach full tail pitch. Less than 45 degrees and the gain is too high, more than 45 degrees and the gain can go higher.

60% of the time, it works every time!

I wasn't sure the Ikon was actually working. Sure I saw the numbers change, but that just looks good on the PC screen. This is my first brushless servo with such high specs. So this is all new to me. All my other helis have Align DS650 or the old Futaba S9257.

Richardmid1, your method is awesome! It shows the servo is actually responding to the gain channel. At 20% HH, my tail won't reach full pitch. I increase the gain to 60% and sure enough the tail reaches full pitch at around 45 degrees. And, all this is done without taking flight. No voltmeter or gadget needed. Just rotate the heli. Amazing!

I'll double check at FFF just in case. None of the local guys here or the Ikon tech support guy suggested your method.

Thanks big time!!!
