My version Hughes 500 C 600 size
Been working on this for several months now. I have already maidened it when it was still in primer. I was going to put the
"Breitling" scheme on it but, the paint masking I ordered from Callie graphics was way too big. She is making new ones now. so I decided to put it together ( I can have it apart for detail paint in about 30 minutes ). Got 3 flights in today, very hard NOT to miss it in the sky. Barry, if you read this, there is a reference to the " Big Fat Pig " in one pic. Enjoy.

Looks great Ron! I saw the pig, LMAO... I wish it wasn't so expensive to ship my R22, I'd have you paint it. Tell Dave I said hi (I saw his ElCamino in the pic).

Nice looking 500, Ron.

Did you fabricate the "V" (or "Y" ) tail yourself, or did it come with the fuse? I really want to do an OH-6 and am looking for tips on how to fab a tail like that.

Barry, since the last post, I have added in the panel lines around the doors. I have put off adding any tail numbers as I have been debating adding the " Breitling " paint scheme. I have the masking but, I don't know how it would look as I have only seen it on the "D" and "E" models.

Copter Doctor
Emile, Thanks. It is a stock Trex 600 E Pro. Stock motor 510kv on 12s with 118t main 10t pinion. Century head w/stock Align 600 main and 105mm tails.

Co rotorhead, the "V" tail I had to fabricate. I totally enclosed a brand new tail unit that is smooth as butter to give me some flat platforms for the fin ( I modified the one that came with the kit ). Scratch built the horizontal with very thin balsa and a 6mm carbon tube leading edge.

I have another kit in the box that will be a "D" model T tail that I will probably enclose the tail as well for a more finished look.

Ron
Edit: Oh yeah, it has a Vbar. Thanks to MOJAVE

Hi Ron,
Looks like you have some great building skills!!
If this is your first scaler, you are on your way nicely!!
Get that baby finished and the fly the heck out of it.., maybe we will get to meet you at Top Gun in 2017.,,
Keep that info coming.. us old dogs are always open to new ways to do things, and all you have to do is hit one of us up if you need some "other" opinions!!

Stan, Stan, Stan, what are we gonna do with you...LOL Yes, I told him about your tree cobra... He also knows about Jim's lake cobra. What is it with cobras and unconventional landings?
Hey Ron, I like the addition of the panel lines, it really sets it off. You'll have to do a build thread on your next scale machine. You had some really cool mods on this one, like the V tail...

Very nice work on the enclosed tail gearbox. If you're bored, maybe you could post some close-up pics?

Wow, for a while there I didn't think there was any interest in this build but, ok.

Stan, yes this is my first big scaler. I have done a couple of 450's. I met you at Top Gun and saw the tree cobra. I have thought about building one but, they tend to land kinda awkward at times lol. I have been flying the crap out of it. Hope to fly in Top Gun next year.

co rotorhead, The tail was a little to get sorted. I used 2mm fiberglass to encase it. Some say "what if it needs servicing"?
well, I guess that would take a dremmel tool and about 40 hrs. labor. Anyway, here are some pics. of that.

That is good to know if I need anything cnc'd. That and 3D printing have always interested me.
I have another 500D model in the planning stage. I am thinking about enclosing the top and bottom of the tail to cover the gears for a more clean look by using some very thin balsa.
Right now though, I am building some custom shelves to put the "Big Fat Pig" (there is a back story to that) on because it gets in the way and the new build will have a place to park as well.

Ok, I got my custom made shelving done so I have a place to park this. I have decided that this is as far as this build should go for now. I am just going to add some tail numbers and call it a day.
The other kit (500E) in the box was screaming " let me out " (high pitch voice) so, it is on the bench getting stared at.
Hmmm, Military or Civilian version.

Well, I finally got around to finishing the paint. Got the "Breitling" painted on. A couple of more details and some clear coat.
I painted and balanced the tail blades. I think this is the color and pattern I will use on the mains (not these junk brand). The colors are flat enamel with a flat lacquer clear finish.

Ron

I didn't crash. I just ran out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time!
