I've flown everything from 250 class to 700 class on vbar. Straight out of setup they've all been very close to perfect.

There is zero reason not to trust the default settings to take off and hover well if you ran through setup using the default 700-class setup profile (or the 800 profile if there is one--I can't remember).

From a good hover you can start dialing in the tail gain to get the tail to hold better (if it's not already); and then spend 1-2 packs dialing it in.

Almost guaranteed it will fly very well out of the box, though.
if it ain't broke, break it.

I think those are the maximum available values and not recommended values.

Honestly, I'd maiden with the default values you have after completing setup and adjust from there after some tests.

If you're really worried save your current settings and preload the logo 800 profile. That should give you an idea for what an 800 should start with. Then reload your saved version.

I'd still maiden with the defaults, but you now have an idea of which values to adjust if it's not perfect.

ok thanks do you perhaps have any profile settings i can load in vbar, i don't see a logo profile, is it because i'm on vbar v5.3 ?

does the numbers on my link above look ok ? I'm not sure what the default values was, is there a way to pull up the default values

Ok, yes on v5.3 there is no presets. But, after you complete setup and are back on the main screen there are little 'speech bubbles' next to both the main rotor and tail rotor gains. In the speech bubbles are helicopters of various sizes. Simply choose a value near the larger scale--i don't think there is one specifically for 800-class.

The reason it's not so exact and just points to an area of the slider is because it just does not matter so much for first flights.

I understand you are nervous. But, if you did the setup correctly the helicopter will be 100% flyable even with the incorrect gains. Choosing 700-size gains will get you very close. I think even if you leave stock gains it may only wander slightly if the gains are too low, or you may get a little bit of bounceback if they are too high. But, these will only show up once you start to push the helicopter. For a test hover it will be fine, and you can begin to tweak the settings from there.

Sorry, I don't recall the default values. They are usually in the 80-85 range though.

The main thing for maiden is to always check you input surface directions, and the vbar compensation directions and make sure those are correct. Everything else can be adjusted after a few flights.

Congrats! (Your day went better than mine. But, that's a story for another time)

FYI, you can just click the 'paste clipboard' button that's next to the 'submit' button to put a link to your pictures. No need to copy/paste the hyperlink. Clicking the 'paste clipboard' button also puts a thumbnail of the picture instead of the hyperlink text.

If you add expo, make sure you do it in the vBAR program OR the radio, not both....Team MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!

You can but the VBAR program comes with default expo built in. turn that to zero before you add it in the radio.Team MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!

Thanks sorry to here cudaboy, it's a hard thing these heli's when the day it goes south, sigh... hope it's going better over there now....

thanks for the tip but i think it's something to do with a stupid add on in my browser blocking some features, i need to re-do my whole browser, anyway just before i left for the maiden i put in 20% expo on the main head on vbar, the tail wags slightly so i guess i need to increase gains a bit, also can't decide on what i should run my esc curve on, lower is nice as i would get more flight time, but higher makes for a more crisp experience....

o no wait i see this clipboard option now below, aaa now i get it...ha..ha..ha

Ok finally i got a video for you guys to look at: (spoolup starts at 2:37)

Watch at YouTube

i'm still in the hovering phase with this heli as i still need to get used to the machine and make sure she's good before letting here loose,

The reason for this video, i want you guys to focus on the tail listen to the heli and tell me if it's all good,i upped the tailgain from 75 to 88 from the previous maiden and the tail is much more solid, very little wag from what i can tell now, but it's up to you guys to give your opinions.

If you look at the direction the heli is facing at 4:36. there was a wind blowing at constant 24km/h right in the direction of it's tail so basically a tailwind from that direction all the time, with some mild turbulence, and 2 instances of bigger turbulence.

The second landing i hit big turbulence just before touchdown and punched the throttle, it climbed but something was not right,i noticed there was no power, not having time to think of the problem, i elected to put her down as the headspeed was slowing down, i first tested how much bite she has which in turn made me lose more headspeed, but just before touch down i went almost full collective and i could see the blades 1 by one so slow it was turning, she settled down good, i doubt the maingear even bent, everything is fine, upon close inspection, the pinion is loose, and looks a bit damaged. However the question does everything look fine ?

i'm on a throttle curve of 0 85 85 85 85 85 90, the batteries i got with the heli aren't that fresh anymore, but still in balance, so i'm thinking of upping the throttle curve to 90 at all ends.

Looks good enough to begin tuning it, from what I can see. To be honest, I haven't flown a throttle curve in so long my eyes and ears aren't used to hearing issues any longer. Any reason you're not using the vbar gov, or is that something you plan on activating later?

As far as tuning goes, run through the laundry list below. Obviously you won't be able to do steps 1-2: tuning the gov if you're not using gov. But, the rest is worth doing. If/when you get the gov turned on, go through the whole list again.

Thanks Cudaboy

No reason yet not to add, it, just wanted to see how she'll behave without a governor, i'm just a bit hesitant to enable it as i have heard stories of people using governer causing problems as runaway headspeeds, i just changed the curve to see how she will behave, and it is better than the last time, i will try add the esc governor perhaps if i can get over that fear of trusting the esc, if that doesn't work to good i might add the vbar governor thanks, now i'm going to go through that tuning list.

Turn on the governor, then tune the heli. It will be next to impossible to tune with an inconsistent HS.
Runaway HS? If the gearing is correct, you can never get a HS higher than the gearing will allow....
