Another Starwood Lama build...
Well I wasn't in the market for one but since Joe was tempting me I thought "oh sure, another heli, what the heck." So I ordered the turbine because everyone loves a turbine.
So I found a couple Lamas on Airliners.net, printed the pics and taped them to a door in my garage.
Finally decided on the Dam Helicopters Lama in the cool orange.

Day one consisted of tearing everything down, bag and tag, and photo document in case my photographic memory fails me. The bag with all of the aluminum is going to the anodizers and the rest gets shot orange at a buddy's shop.

Stay tuned!

Another Lama... awesome!!!

will follow your build while assembling mine.

Mine will stay white but with a nice blue color along the bottom and a thin red pinstripe.

Looking forward to your build thread. Embee plating in Anaheim did a great job of powder coating my Bell47 G3 mechanics. Just make sure you get a quote in writing beforehand...

For the anodizing I have a local place. For the rest I'll shoot it with single stage auto paint. The powder coating is actually a decent base to shoot on.
I just need to determine which exact orange it is.
Sounds like time to write the helicopter company an email.

And I have a cool stand to build it on!

while doing research for my Lama build, I found this vendor who sells quite a few scale parts for the 1/5 scale Lama and the prices are very reasonable.

Jeff, glad you like the heli stand I need to build another one now. I'm glad I didn't sell my spare tripod... Wife and I got back together, so I'll be on to my next project soon...

International Orange Aerospace is my guess.
I'd say that will work for me. And has a readily available code which always keeps the guys at the paint shop happy.

Thanks!

I've got the logo pics handled (sort of) but I don't have enough resolution to clearly see the round ones with the mountains and wording. Under the cockpit too.
I'me sure someone will recognize them.
TIA

Paint
Everything except the cockpit which of course is where all the work is. The international Safety Orange was too bright. A consensus at the auto paint store came up with this orange. Like Hugger Orange.

Glued half of the bearing blocks this morning and the other half just now.

Got more paint for the cockpit shell and the red / yellow for the tail rotors.
The rattle cans are filled with urethane auto paint at the store. When ready to use push the big button at the bottom to puncture the internal hardener cell then shake all night long. The tip is an adjustable fan tip and you have a 48 hour shelf life. Greatest thing since sliced bread! I love to paint but this job wasn't warranting a full gun setup.
The tail rotors and main blade tips I'll shoot with an airbrush.

Hurry up weekend!
