e550 Landing Geare
Does anyone know of a replacement landing gear that will fit the e550? Not only are they no where to be found, they are way too fragile. Maybe a set from another model?

Thanks.

I have been using trex 600 struts-This needs minor alterations, namely drilling the holes for the attaching screws either medially or laterally (I forget, its obvious when you look at it with the heli) and gluing a small piece of plastic underneath the forward strut so the canopy locks in. Looks great, easily obtainable, works well, and much less expensive than stock.if it doesn't fit, make it fit.

Yeah, I also discovered that the Align struts work just fine and only require the drilling of new holes for attaching the struts to the frame.

So, I have the struts drilled and mounted. However, I haven't solved the bottom "latch" issue for locking the canopy to the strut. Actually, the latch is broken so I can't use it.

I'd be interested in seeing how/where/what you glued to the canopy to make a latch. Could you take a pix or two and share them?

Thanks.

wow, its fun to see someone actually reads my posts.

To create this latch, I first made a wafer of plastic from a broken strut and cut it on a dremel table saw. If you don't have a dremel table saw, a hacksaw will work just fine. The idea now is to build up the plastic on the underside of the strut so the ridge on the latch has a place to grab instead of just sitting up there in space. Take your wafer of plastic, glue it with thick CA to the aft portion of the forward strut as in picture 3, then spray accelerator. Final adjustment is made with a dremel rotary tool to grind off any excess plastic or glue. Depending on how thick you made your wafer, you may need two layers to get the desired effect.
if it doesn't fit, make it fit.
