Hi all,

After a bit of mucking around with geometry etc I finally got my big BK117 hovering with a 4 blade head. Got to say it was a bit nerv racking getting it to lift off the ground the first time. I had 40% on my throttle curve to the power jazz to keep the headspeed down until tracked and I ran out of tail authority a couple of times. Got it tracked reasonably well and increased throttle up to 60 and got some tail back. Just waiting for batteries to charge for the second test flight.

Nice looking machine and nice job! Yes, remember the low headspeed and the high torque at such low speeds will require more tail input to maintain heading. but as you saw, increase in headspeed restored yaw control. longer and or wider tail blades will help improve yaw control at lower headspeeds.

It's a Robbe body with Robbe Milli 2 mechanics that I converted to electric. Im using a Kontronik Power Jazz with a Scorpion 400kv motor powered with 2 12s 3300 packs in parallel for about 8 minutes flight time. I'm using a CGY750 on the last firmware as I updated another unit to version 2 in a Trex 550 the other day and wasn't real happy with the way it flew.

I've also got the telemetry working monitoring the main batteries so no need for a timer.

I had the BK flying on 2 blades nicely but couldn't help myself with the 4 blades. I got a TSA head and had to modify the geometry of the blade grips as there was some clashing etc with my mechanics.

I ended up getting some 800mm SpinBlades off a guy in Australia and they arrived today so out I went for my test hover.

The tail blades are 115mm.

I've got a Xnova 300kv motor here for it to put in next.

It felt a bit strange to have the reverse rotation to what I'm used to.

Great job, I reversed the head on my 222, I'm happy with it, and enjoy flying it more. I always wanted to do the bk117 with the future mechanics, again looks great

Thanks for the comments guys.

Put a couple more sets of batteries through it today and all went well. I think I need to put some bigger pieces of tracking tape on as I'm having trouble getting the last fine adjustment. It's running nice and smooth but I can see the blades are slightly out.

If you have a digital pitch gauge, set the pitch of the blades individually on the bench, and you will not have to worry about tracking.
