Hey guys I am building a 550 dominator right now and the drive train feels a little tight. Is this normal until they run in?

With or without the motor installed? And what is your definition of "tight"?

The drive train should be quite free.

Without the motor. When I turn the head it just seems like a lot of resistance in the system. Just not as free as would be expected

Are you turning main blades or just the main shaft with fingers?

How careful were you with the assembly step at the top of page 8 of the manual where you have the main frame on a flat surface - tightening the various screws while making sure the main shaft spun freely?

That is an important step.

If you pull the tail boom you can check how freely the torque tube and tail rotor spins. You can also see if this frees up the main gear and tail drive stuff that is still mounted in the frames.

What Dave said but it's not going to keep spinning for any length of time when you flick the rotor head without blades, especially without tail blades, there's not enough inertia. The torque tube gears may also bet a little on the tight side till you've had a few flights on it.
