Is it just me or does anyone else think that todays helis just look awful or boring?

The last heli that I thought looked half decent was the Rave 90 and they have gone now!

Remember the Henseleit 3DNT, Hirobo Freya, MA Stratus or any older MA's for that matter, Synergy N9, Avant Aurora, JR Vibe 90!! All beautiful!

I don't care for the streamlined look of some of the new helis.

Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

Designs evolving for weight and longevity, market adjusting.

Hirobo .. one-way issues all day long, very heavy, owned 2 or 3 EVOS and X-Specs

Synergy N9 .. aftermarket mods almost required to get it light and agile, plastic fantastic stock parts often didn't fit right .. that crown gear .. owned many .. one of my favorite helis of all time

Rave 90 .. about as reliable as a Trex 700, didn't take much abuse, long term reliability issues, and killed by no factory support, owned 2 of them.

3DNT .. no opinion, never had one, but looked cool!

Vibe 90 .. too expensive for what you get but great heli, know folks that had and loved them.

MA .. out of business .. twice? Loved my 4 Stratuses, Strati, Stratus?

Aurora .. had 2 of them, best looking heli .. but one-way troubles, poor factory support, parts went scarce often for months at a time, very sensitive to motor tuning

The newer helis all follow that box pattern for the frames, keeping everything inside for safety and the box design is more rigid than the thin frames, but I think the thin frames are better looking.

The Synergy 766 is the best looking one around in my opinion .. love the panels

I'll meet you half way. They make some ugly helis today but I find many of them pretty darn good looking.

I wonder if it's just a question of familiarity.?.? By that I mean we just like what we are used to.

I like the look of the TSA models. Not surprisingly they look a lot like many of the other models I've seen for years. It just looks right.

On the other hand - I'm struggling with the Synergy 766. While I'm considering buying one, I think it would live in my shop sans canopy.

Funny. In the length of time it took me to compose a post, you posted the above.

Beauty truly is based on who's looking.

Yea, it's all a matter of what you like.

My favorite look is still is the Synergy N9. The thin canopy and the straight landing struts. Loved it!!!

You know, if any of us went back to any of these kits we would hate them lol .. helis have come a long way. Better parts quality overall, better designs, lighter, cheaper.

It's not just you. The worst offender is the heli the Synergy rep is pushing (my opinion of course).

Poor class on my part.

I have also been looking for something new. The new Compass EXO looks sweet!

I have a 3D heli, I don't understand why it doesn't do 3D.

Hirobo still make the lovely looking Eagle 3 series (and others)

.. and the Rave series is alive and kicking very well. Only difference is you now order kits/parts direct from the factory
https://www.droneshelis.com/

.. also there is Quest in Japan still making great models

JR make a wide and varied range, some following the current styling heard and some more traditional kits.

I guess the difference is there aren't hundreds of "reps" for these models pushing them down our throats on every web page or social media area you visit, therefore they kind of go under the radar.

I just laid eyes on a friend's brand new Goblin 700 KSE, and fell in love with the thing. Gorgeous looking high quality machine IMO. I am happy with my current fleet, but I could see owning one of those in the future.

I find the newer machines a lot less engaging.

My favourites,

Hirobo Freya/Eagle and Turbulence

JR Sylphide, Vibe and GSR

Kasama Srimok, Dune

And of course the Kyosho/Quest Caliber/Impaction!

Futaba T18SZ, Hirobo fanatic!

I know that this is really new compared to most of the helis in this post but IMO this thing looks absolutely amazing with the nearly seamless shell.

I dont get it. Full sport fuselages have been around forever yet all the sudden its all the rage. I guess fliers like tacking on hundreds of dollars extra on their repair bill? No flybars and extra parts, the mechanics are simpler and yet the kits cost more nowadays.

The tdr 2 looks like a larn dart not a heli.

Call me crazy but I like to see the mechanics of my helis.

Man I love the stance and height of those MA helis! I think I do actually prefer the taller main shaft/head block of the older flybarred helis, just gives them much more size and presence, it also makes them and the pilot look that much more impressive doing 3D with them!

This of course is my opinion but the standard Goblins and the Synergy 766 are the worst offenders! I have a Synergy N7 and fly it without the canopy on, it's that hidious! The canopy is too wide and sits too high, it looks like it doesn't fit properly!

60% of the time, it works every time!
