We had a model aircraft display
We had a model aircraft display at a local hockey game last weekend. I had five of my helis there. The number one question asked of me was, where is the camera. The helis on display where a Goblin 380, a goblin 500 sport, a TSA 700N , a Mostro, and a MSH Protos Max....just say'n

I've been flying models for 50 years. While it has clearly spiked lately, asking if there is a camera on it is NOT something new. Not by a long stretch.

I can't tell you the number of people that have looked at one of my models and said "I'd be cool if you could put some little rockets on it." The AMA awards points for scale aircraft that drop bombs in a scale fashion (or at least they used to).

Asking if it has a camera isn't as common as "how much does it cost", "did you build it yourself", or "how high does it fly" but it's never been too far behind.

Strap a camera on your heli and have that person asking, wear the virtual head set, and then take them for a fast furious 3D flight! Have someone with a another camera take video of the person wearing the virtual head set...that would be funny as ...

With a question like that I would bet you have spent "Hundreds of hours practicing on your sim"
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

"Can I fly it ?"
Sure . . . after you give me a deposit equal to the replacement cost plus the cost of my time to build it and if you break it . . . you bought it.

The devil made me do it. Some one had to ask!!!

The OP should be applauded for taking the time to show his aircraft at such an event. The general public really has no idea of what we are capable of doing. All you can do is teach.

My favorite question....

Hey Bro, I just bought this one....What do you think?

FWIW, I have had people ask me about a camera as well...So I put one on, took video and then showed them the video...most just got sea sick and thats cause I'm not a very good 3D guy. My brother in law described the video best...looks like a 2 year old running around with a camera making buzzing noises.

But other questions top on my list have been:
1. How much did it cost
2. Where did you buy it?
3. Can I fly it? (Little kids ask this one like 90% of the time)
4. How far can it fly, can it carry stuff? ( i dont answer this one if they guy is wearing a turban )
5. Can I see it? ( I dont know...can you, I can from here...)
6. Is that for real? ( No, its just your imagination kid...)

My top follow on responses to the top questions have been:
1a. dang! thats too much.... (then drive away in a $1500 car sporting $4,000 rims)
2a. never heard of it...
3a. but why not? I have a game that does the same thing?
4a. interesting...(usually not a good sign)
5a. Cool.
6a. No its not...
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

For years with my 700 electric, I did have a camera on it, but only for my review and interest. It was simply a challenge to try and get vibration free vids. Now I have a Phantom that really takes great vibration free vids. Still. it's only for my own interest.I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
