Hello,

I am in the market for a gas heli. I have owned the Leviathan Goblin but did not like the smaller tank. It's a great model but the smaller tank made me get rid of it. Also, I have been following the different threads regarding the Agile and 570 conversions but these discussions have been going on for years now and I'm tired of seeing preorder for helis when they actually mean let's see how many I can get before I actually build one.... I own a Synergy N5 with a Go Engine that is a great sport machine but is under powered. I spent weeks breaking it in and I'm actually shocked that I haven't had any issues with the motor. I went over to MA's new site to see if the Whiplash Gasser was available but again another model not available or in the pre-order state. I also owned a whip for about a month and sold it once I found out they were going out of business. I currently own a Trex 700 Nitro and have thought about converting it to gas but I have had too many issues with the dfc head and the links popping out. I have replaced all of the parts on the head but don't trust the heli. The only model that I can see is in production and readily available is the Radikal G30. There are a few videos out there of the Radikal performing 3D and I understand those videos are not a stock g30 but a cross between the g20 and g30(g25).Any thoughts or advice would greatly be appreciated.

Change the DFC to a follower style FBL head and buy a gas conversion for the Align.

E820, Raptor G4N, X50F/E, E620, Forza 450, and some planks.

The version you saw performing the 3D was likely the OMG edition which never actually made it to market...It was a G30 w/big performance engine using a shorter G20 tail and 30/50 metal FBL head with 640 blades(maybe 620?)...

The G30 and 20 are OK but demand very precise alignment of the driveline components, especially with the clutch stack in both models...get any one of these wrong and you'll end up chasing a vibration issue for weeks...the frame does not tolerate an out of tune engine for long either.

Another issue has been quality of the parts themselves...I have actually had new clutch bells that were warped OR the clutch liner lop sided, rough cut pinions which eat up the main gear, pinion blocks that crush the bell bearings, stock clutches that break often (G20) etc..

I have two, one which is a stretched 20 that runs 700mm blades and does 3D just fine with a custom engine (see gallery), has alot of custom parts, it works great, but it took alot of work to get it where it is....even then, every once in a while I get vibrations that are hard to track down...which usually end up being a bad bearing or drive line setup that fell out of alignment. So its not perfect, but it keeps me happy enough.

BTW G30s are cheap..especially with the sale Heli World is having...but its up to you to put the work into getting everything perfect on the model to get the most from it.

How is the parts support for the G30? Ive been warned off them due to that and gave up even trying to back order a v2 muffler from them.

re - the Whiplash. If you can wait a few month Id see if the drive train redesign comes out and then get that. I still fly my whiplash and other than the OWB issue I love it.

If you do decide to convert your TRex I have also really enjoyed my Helix conversion and the flight times are so long I almost get bored (22-24 min). I use a non-DFC head setup. If your interested I can pm you a link to my build and setup thread on the Helix... its at another forum

Parts Support?

there is only one place in the USA to get parts and thats Heli World... otherwise you might have luck with Leisure tech in Canada (http://www.leisuretech.ca/). Website is rudimentary but they are legit..

back order on parts can span 6 months to over a year like for the V2 muffler

everybody else dropped Century 2 years ago...

Kind of funny 14 oz tank on a gasser is not big enough. If all you want is flight time, a Trex stock tank is around 22 oz.

Heli World and Century are the same company.

The Radikal is not even close to the same league as the Leviathan Goblin in design, part fit and durability. Yes I have owned both.

If anyone decides to buy a kit for anything more than spare parts, make sure Century intends to support the product in the future.

I have a rad with a 231 and upgraded carb. Heli is smooth as silk. No vibes. But it's not the direction of go in for 3D performance. Century is getting out of helis, rumor..... Go with something more modern and lasting. I'm looking at the whiplash. When I get my condor and se rebuilt, they go on the shelf for admiring. Parts are hard to get for predators and soon will be for radikals. And if there is anyone that has predator parts I need them, let's discuss what you have and $. Good luck on deciding what you are going to do. I love my pred and rad tho.

There is no such thing as up, it's all out...

Check out Pantera (Audacity.com) and see if that will fit your bill...I do not know much other than what I have read. I do not have one of their aircraft, however I own several of there servos and they are great...Also great service and made in the USA...
