Now that this engine has been out for awhile what are the opinions of those out there flying it. What does it take to keep it happy? Don't care for it? Give your opinion good or bad, please post them.

One guy on Rcgroups stated that they are more powerful than the evolution 15cc gas engine but that was concerning airplanes. That's all I got.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Very similar power to a OS 70 2 stroke on 20% nitro, without the fuel consumption.
15 min on the OS 70 to 40 min on petrol.
Good for scale and sport flying but limited for 3d.

I went through two last year trying to keep them running. I did not have one single ounce of luck. That mind you was with mild flying.

your better off spending your money on either more nitro OR going with a Zenoah...

this little engine has a very well deserved bad reputation that is well documented in heli use.

part of the problem is that too many are trying to push this engine into a 600 and even a 700 class bird and fly it like they did when it was a nitro, and it just doesnt have the power to do anything other than gentle flying in cool weather with very conservative pitch and cyclic...

this engine is best suited to 550 size and no bigger.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

I enjoy it, for what it is, in a Helixheli GT600 kit. This kit uses the 700 cooling, which helps and gives me a 8:1 gear ratio.

Agreed that it has to work too hard to swing 700mm blades, and I do not expect it to make the power of a nitro. It certainly has taught me to be even smoother than nitro vs E.

With the spiral retainers it has been reliable (touch wood !) for me .... so far. I use telemetry and watch the temperature very carefully. I do not know yet what summer will do to it, but it has been okay during the cooler months.

I have 24l through it so far.

2 years 3D in a 600N, still going strong. But did change to spiral retainers after 6 gallons. No over heating issues through the summer, but you need to tune correctly.

Spiral retainer... You mean the C-clip...

Well, On my experience, the problem were not c-clip...it was on the groove for the c-clip next to the port.

Very bad mistake on quality control...
C-clip groove on piston next to the port was wider and the c-clip come out very easy and ruin the sleeve and piston.

No. Spiral retainer. Check the link in my post

It is definitely not a C-clip and nothing wrong with the groove if you use this,
