Huge main gear
It looks like the Makado helis have main gears much larger in diameter than most other brand machines. Why is that? I'd guess that when choosing a motor for one it would need to be a different KW rateing than for say a Goblin the same size.

I could not tell you why the main gear is larger, but they are tough . Choosing thebKV of the motor is a factor of the overall gearing of the Heli, head speed you want, battery voltage, etc. The physical size of the main hear does not factor into that.
I see you are in Ocala, I am in Gainesville. There are a few Logo flyers here, you should come by sometime

Yea, that Protos gear is big too. The big gears make some sense I guess, as it would put less torque on the gear, but most other helis still use the smaller one with no problem. Goblins and other dual stage machines solve the problem with two gears. Just made me wonder.
No one flies Makado around here, but have seen them at fun flies. I'll try to get up with you in Gainesville.

The main gear is "thick".

It's a "double helix" gear arrangement.

A 2x helix gearing minimizes axial loads.

But, it increases "side loads"....which is why Mikado employs
the bearings on the on the gear train.
