It fly's!!!! I got a couple of short hovers in yesterday. At this time the tail is holding and the blade track looks good at 1300 rpm. But I did have some oscillations. I keep the gains low for starters.. same settings as in my 600 Jet Ranger and my friends Cobra.. so I'll bring them up a little and up the rpm to 1350 for the next test. I'm using the Naza controller cause I had an extra one laying around and I have a lot of experience with the naza.. so fine tuning should not be an issue. This heli has been a challenge since the start.Dennis

Had a good day testing today. Raised the rpm to 1350 and it smoothed out very well. May raise another 25 or so. Raised the fbl gains 10 points. It really looked good but it was all in hover.. no forward flight yet, will FF this week.

About power consumption.. I think I read somewhere that you should use about 50 watts per pound.. My flight avg was 1040 w and 24.0 amps but a steady hover was 1250 W and 30.0 amps. What should I be looking for?

I really do not like these blades that came with the 700 AS350. I went out to the site to get some air time on the mech's. Flew 7 times and had mixed results each flight. If the wind layed down the bird flew ok but could be better. If there was any wind it would shake and the tracking looked off. In FF in no wing it wasn't bad but it takes more input to maneuver then i'm use to. I'll have to work on that. I think my big hocken landing gear is creating a pendulum effect also.

Anyway, I think it's best to shelve the scale blades for now. I think after that I will be able to chase down other issue's so I can fine tune it. A new head may also be in order but I'll try blades first

I knew the first day I handled the blades they'd be a no go. I hovered them for about a minute before I shelved them. It occurred to me why a stab system is recomended. I have since then been running rotortech 690mm blades with zero issues and no need for a stab unit (at least for me) the difference in weight is about 50grams. I think with the right blades you shouldn't have the tracking or inconsistency issues.drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

Ok.. I got a set of Zeal's 690mm set of 3 blades. Their specs match Sab silver blackline 3 blade set. They look nice.

Each blade is 194.4g matched.. And the CG is spot on. So I have installed and reset zero pitch and will give them a spin tmr.

I do have a question about phasing. With one blade over the boom if I give elevator that blade should not move correct? If so.. then mine does move some but movement goes away when the blade is off center boom some.. as in the photo... so I will need to adjust the phasing in the fbl unit to get no movement when it's over the boom.?

yes, if it moves at all, adjust til there is no movement.
those blades look nice! its almost a shame to paint them like a scale set of blades n who says you have to?
let us know how these blades do, they sound like they are squared away.

New Roban main shaft arrived from RCA, mounted it only to notice that the collar was totally out of whack. Notice the difference between the old shaft on the right and the new one on the left.

Months later and they are still sending out pre bent main shafts with the kits. Mine looked just like the video
Question, if anyone is still listening
Is the Goblin main shaft a 630/700 or a 770?

I forgot to revisit this. I ended up using a Align Trex 600 main shaft lock collar drilled out to 12mm to lock the goblin shaft. I had to trim the side of the collar down a couple of mm to help clear the elevator push rod linkage. The elevator linkage will still bump the collar but only at negative pitch [-4] so while at or above -0- pitch with full elevator deflection there is no contact or rubbing. I did also file down the very end of the linkage below the ball links to get more clearance.
I don't have a pic and the mechs are in the fuse but I will get a pic up later today.

Thank you very much
I have the 630/700 main shaft on order (H-0122-S)
Also ordered the main shaft bearings while I'm working on it.
The main shaft also comes with a lock collar. I may try that

That lock collar bolts through the bottom of the goblin main shaft. Youwon't be able to use it sitting on the top bearing. If you can find a Align 700 nitro shaft it should come with a 12mm lock collar or get someone to machine one for you. You can also use a Align 600 lock collar and drill it out from 10mm to 12mm as I did. The pics are not great but it works. it will still just rub at bottom stick but is clear while in flying pitch range. I am -4 +12.

PM me a address and I will drop it in the mail when they come on Tuesday

If I read that correctly... that is way to big to even consider using. It has a 22mm OD. The servo linkage will not allow for it. The collar I'm talking about is only 18mm OD and needs to be taken down to about 15mm OD at least to work without binding the elevator linkage.Dennis
