form of extortion
Something is "fishy" with how the AMA leadership is presenting "their" case.

I really don't care who knows my Reg#. If one of my friends wants to put that on his plane to get me in hot water, then he was not much of a friend to begin with.

If you are going to fly next to me at the field and I know that you are not registered, I will encourage you to register. I am not going to turn you in, but I am not helping you if LEO shows up. You are on your own.

I am not too worried about all of this. All the FUD will die down and we will move along as we have before. The only thing is that you know the 6-7 FAA flight rules and you have agreed to follow them. If it makes you fly a bit safer, then great. We can all do a bit better.

None of us wants to cause injury or death to anyone because of our hobby. I know that there is no direct link between registering and safety, but at least now there are some minimal rules.

Follow them and fly happy.

I personally think the heli community did fairly well at this already. We don't need the FAA telling us to be safe. Having a number, isn't going to make us more safe. It's just another way for the government to track what we do. And I am not for that at all. Government is way to big. If they were worried about too big to fail, our government is so big and bloated I'm surprised it doesn't fall under it's own weight.

Obviously. Why in the hell would you voluntarily even give anyone, friend or otherwise, the option to get you in "hot water" in the first place and then potentially have to deal with the fallout?

Well the bottom line for me is this whole thing is out of control and when it gets down to the club leaders it kind of shows me just what the leadership in the club is all about. I really wish I had other options that were close to me but if I want to fly with other guys I have to drive about and hour to get with other buddies to fly.

Jeepworld....I flew with Todd up there this fall....again it takes me about an hour to get there.

I am aware of at least 4-5 clubs and one public flying field in my area that require it. Ironically, at the two clubs that I'm a member of the issue hasn't come up yet.

We did have another site that we all met at and it was the best field around for a 100 miles. The tragedy about this field was that two years ago a fella lost all of his fingers on starting a 1/3 scale plane an the owner has shut down the site.

My club just started on line payment for our dues and on the application they wanted my federal number.....nice way to NOT get any new members. Like our club is not one of the best clubs to begin with and then they throw gasoline on the application. NICE
Really? Is it that big of a deal? We're required to have this number by the Federal government. Since you have to have it, what's the big deal about providing it to your club?

If you're going to be angry or frustrated how about aiming it at our government, not your local club or AMA.

If your not happy with how the club is run than why not run for office? I see and hear this all the time complaints but no action. Now if your the only one who has issues than maybe it's just you, if not it seems like voting out those in power should be easy.
Most serve because no one else will.

Our club has decided not to require FAA registration unless our site owner requires it as part of our lease.

I bet our host will require it. As long as we have to have it per the Federal government, I don't see why it's a big deal sharing it with your club. It's going to be on every model you fly there anyhow.

You guys are missing the point here. Your right it is only a number. I was just making a point at how this is going to hurt the hobby. Why did the government not go after the RC manufactures instead of us, and why haven't theymade the manufactures do something to help out the situation. Fit you guys that do t see any harm in this you guys must have been sleeping during history class.

Why go after the manufacturers? WE chose to be idiots and do stupid things. How many times on these forums did you read guys talking about seeing other people doing stupid things and not wanting to get involved or admitting they were doing something they shouldn't have? Even in this very thread someone said if they saw someone flying without the FAA mandated number that they wouldn't tell their club. We did this to ourselves. Not the manufacturers.

I guess that was directed at me, since I said that I would not report someone flying without registering. I am not a LEO. It is not my job to enforce the law, same as the club.

I think that it is stupid to fly without it. This is a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things.

I was wide awake during history class and I know that I did not miss a lesson about registering drones. I sure wish all the drama queens would give it a rest. This is not gun control, stop the comparisons. Unbolt your cabin door and get a fresh breath of air.

If this registration system helps catch one knucklehead that caused the loss of a life, it will have all been worth it. I fully well know that someone intent on causing damage will not register. If you want me to register my butter knife, reluctantly I will, after complaining.

Now that I resent. I am not a drone operator. They forced us to register as a drone operator. That padded number is likely to be used against us.
