My club just started on line payment for our dues and on the application they wanted my federal number.....nice way to NOT get any new members. Like our club is not one of the best clubs to begin with and then they throw gasoline on the application. NICE

Per AMA your club doesn't need your FAA number and is not supposed to ask.

Well this is just typical of this club taht I belong to. The only reason that I belong to it is that it is close to my home, and it is a paved runway. This club has a couple of boot jacks in it and I have had to get in their faces a couple of times on issues. I will cite one....they still wanted you to put your transmitter in the impound even though 2.4 had been in effect for about two years....like I said BOOT JACKS....or jackasses what ever verbage you want to use.

Spooky stuff : How about any other info ?

We have a exclusive 2.4 bar on our Flag or freq. stand. They ignore it and it's expensive. It is too be used as a training tool for bunnies.

They don't use it either -they shoot several planes down a year.
Do It To Them Selves or Others : WILD CRAZY Stuff

The how or reason why ?

They jump between 2.4 and FM repeatably never paying attention to what they are doing. It's never ending too.

They flip on a FM in the Pit or parking lot to adjust something - because they also have several 2.4's - Never paying attention or thinking.

Most don't even know what FM radios they have. It's NUT's . Then It's ? Did I do THAT ?

YOU Bought that one buddy -little more thought involved

Did the site owner require this? Our club will not require FAA registration unless our site owner wants it as part of our lease.
Per AMA your club doesn't need your FAA number and is not supposed to ask.
The AMA has no control over club requirements each club has it's own set of requirements. They will not get involved in the day to day operation of a club. They may "suggest" but they will not mandate.

Our site owner is the state of Pennsylvania. The state put the field in about 20 years ago in a state park. I think that this is their way of keeping unwanted people out. As long as you have an AMA license they can not stop you from flying there because it is public land.

The state can just ban R/C from state parks than what do you do? The FEDs banned them from all national parks a few years back.

I'm tempted to join in on the "argument", opps, I mean discussion.... but in the scope of things going on around the world, this has become a trivial non issue for me.....

My club requires it, I'm registered and that's that.....

Have fun, guys..........

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Pretty much sums it up for me. One club that I belong to requires it, I like to fly there, so.....

The thing about clubs is that they can make any rules that they want regarding this issue, or anything else for that matter. They could say all pilots have to stand on one foot while flying, and if the members (or board) votes it in, then it's a rule....and if you don't like the rules, you have to find another sandbox to play in.

Inform them of the Sec. 336 exemption for RC hobbyists....that is Federal Law....and that they are in violation by demanding this.

On the other hand, they probably can do whatever they like, since it's a private club.

As a club I would say it is not a bad idea to ask for it. I'm having many issues with the whole FAA thing and am very uncomfortable with the language but as a club having to deal with multiple people and multiple levels of common sense or lack thereof, I can understand why a club would want it. Have to cover themselves with FPV and drone pilots who think they can do whatever they want where ever they want.

A club can still only do so much but having the requirement at lease shows responsibility on the clubs part if there is an issue regardless of what some individual might do on their own.

No matter how many FPV and drone pilots say they are safe there are just as many or more that are not safe.

YGBSM. The FAA crap is one thing, but this "clubs are gonna do their thing" is preposterous. Are we honestly saying AMA cannot protect it's members from local elected AMA club leadership?! This is the stuff that is frying me. Why isn't our "organization" organized enough to have a consistent policy? Why doesn't our leadership lead and put a stop to this? I'm not about to quit, because my club requires AMA, but this type of thing brings me to the feeling that my dues are a form of extortion.

There's been nothing but bad news lately and I'm nearing the last straw. And I know I'm not alone. AMA best start to get a feel of the pulse of their membership and address some of these internal issues.
