Tell me what y'all think about it. For a 600trex.... Why yes or why not? Thanks.

3G...as in the original two-piece system?

I would recommend either a 3GX using V5.0 software or the newer GPro. Both work well and considerably are a cut above the original 3G.

I have flown all three. The Gpro would be ny choice although the 3GX with x5.0 is nice.

The state of the art has grown by leaps and bounds.
The old 3G may "only" be 6 or 7 years old, but it is an ancient artifact compared to any FBL gyro on the market today.

For around $100, you can get something that is modern, well supported and easy to setup.

I personally, wouldn't fly the 3G.
Failure will result in crash that may be too expense to recover from.

I will pass it on to him. It was in a lot of stuff he bought and was wondering how well it was.

In that case, find another hobby. No matter WHAT equipment is installed, it is subject to failure and loss of your aircraft.

The 3G is no more prone to failure than any other piece of electronics.

I flew one for several years in my original Trex 550. I upgraded to a 3GX, eventually landing upon version 5.0 software, the difference between the two units was noticeable. Now, the 550 is sporting a GPro. The GPro is much easier to set up and if you have the bluetooth adapter, field tweaks are a simple matter.

Better options out there for not much more money. Unless he owns one and wants to use it then it is different. If he is gonna buy one then I would put a little more with it and get something better. Ikon ,Beast and Spartan are not much more and better

If he has a CGY 750, make sure he updates to v2.0 firmware. It's a whole new and very good animal after you do that.
