A very cool interface for Jakadofsky and Jeti
I was surfing the internet in December looking for some information for my Jeti DS-16 radio system, and I came across a notice in one of the other RC forums about a product from VSpeak. I did a quick search for VSpeak on Google, and I found that the company has been providing electronic items to the RC hobby for many years, and had a few articles written about them in some German RC hobby magazines.

I fly mostly Scale helicopters, and one of them is a turbine powered Lama using a Jakadofsky turbine. Anyone who has seen me fly at an event will have noticed that I am always using the EDT unit prior to the first flight of the day, and again to log the turbine run information data after every flight. I need to plug the EDT display unit into the turbine’s ECU to get information about the last flight for my logbook.

VSpeak has developed a telemetry unit called an ECU converter that seamlessly streams real-time information from a Jakadofsky turbine to a Jeti EX transmitter. It will work with some other telemetry enabled transmitter brands as well, but it seems to provide the most information to the Jeti radio systems.

This is just the type of product I want to have, real-time information for turbine EGT and RPM, battery and fuel pump voltage, and even calculated fuel flow. ECU errors can also be sent to the radios display, as well as voice alarms for out of limit EGT, RPM, voltage, etc.

Mr. Volker Weigt, was very prompt in answering all questions that I sent to VSpeak via e-mail, and so I ordered a unit directly from VSpeak. The unit arrived in about a week from Germany. I can say it looks to be a very nicely made device. It was very simple to install, and my Jeti radio detected it as telemetry perfectly. Using the jetibox application on my DS-16 this unit will perform ALL of the functions of the Jakadofsky EDT directly from my transmitter, set-up, device testing, statistics, everything. Very cool!

The current weather is not allowing me to fly the helicopter with this unit installed yet, but all displays have worked perfectly during bench testing and some mock turbine starts. I look forward to not needing to carry the EDT display out to the flight line with me, and to be able to see the turbine operating perimeters during a flight, as well as have the Jeti radio log this information for me. Based on the results I have had so far, I would recommend this VSpeak ECU converter to anyone who flies a Jakadofsky turbine with a Jeti radio system. Comparing the cost of this unit to the Jeti turbine flow meter telemetry unit I also have on this helicopter, it is a real bargain, it does a lot more for a lot less money.

PS – I have no relationship with VSpeak, other than purchasing this Jakadofsky ECU converter

Glad that it also support SBus.

For the LED indicator from the ECU that provides signal to the pilot, i.e. when the LED turns off to signal you the turbine is ready for lift-off, I am NOT sure this converter can pass this signal via telemetry to the transmitter.

If it does then I am not require to look at the LED when the rotor is spinning on the ground. I can stand somewhere more remote.

Chris.C,

The LED going out indicates that the turbine RPM is up to flight speed. With this VSpeak unit you can see the actual turbine RPM real-time on your transmitter display. So need to see the LED.

Mr. Volker Weigt from Vspeak has just informed me that they are also now supplying ECU converters for the evoJet and Pahl turbines as well.

These will interface with the Jeti and other listed transmitters in basically the same manner as I described for the Jakadofski turbines.

Hey Rick (1hander), this is just what you need now for your MD520 turbine NOTAR with crop spraying. No more guessing on the turbine's load when hauling around all of that water in the spray tank!
