Anybody try mounting a 3 axis gyro on the front top electronics tray on a G20? been looking to make my electronics more "compact" just worried about performance with a CGY750.

Yup, in fact just finished converting my Radikal G20 from flybarred to flybarless, using the Align Trex 600 FBL kit. I'm also using an Align 3GX mounted on the Radikals' electronics tray. I modified and mounted an old Radikal tray to hold the Futaba 6303 Sbus receiver.

So no more flybars, Yayyyy. Picture below is the same heli when it was still flybarred, and with a different canopy (I have three canopies I change up depending on my mood) LOL :-)

Actually its the best place for them. Unfortunately, CoG might suffer.

The green & gray one is my favorite. Second is the blue & orange. Got the black & red one brand new over the Christmas holidays but have only used it once. It retails on Heli-World for $89 but I'm willing to sell it for $25 if anyone is interested.

I'll be good with CG, the G20 Im wanting to try it on is the modded, extended tail heli I have...its using a G30 tail system and the 696mm main blades.

I went with putting the gyro on the tail end cause that was traditionally where it went. But with the setup I have I want to make the RX system more compact and clean.

So If you say its better there, am I to assume that you mean there are less induced vibrations on the front top electronics tray as compared to the base of the tail boom?

Exactly...in theory.

My FBL unit ended up under the boom, rear lower tray, mounted to the inside left side frame vs actual tray.

It was where my fbl performed "best" rather than on top of tail transmission gyro plate or rear lower tray.

Pretty wiring is optional and unnoticed when flying.

I would not move yours unless you are having drifting/tilting issues.

If bored, consider making a means to use an align tail boom setup.

BTW...finally using your homemade beefed up engine mounting plate.

cool, Ive been using the same beefed up lower frame on my heli for 2 years now I think... its still rock solid... as is the original 3 shoe clutch.

yeah, but sometimes I get bored, want to change things... always looking for more power, more performance (less weight, stiffer frame)...

just cant help myself.

I was given a G30 clutch with a starting shaft.

Should have switched to that long time ago.

Almost double the thickness...a no brainer decision.

Too bad Century never came forward to offer this as an alternative option.

there were alot of things they could have continued to improve upon, and not just on evolution of the models, but customer service especially. If they would have continued to evolve the model and keep vendors happy, the model would have had majority of the flaws worked out and it would be a very popular gasser right now, maybe into its third or fourth generation.

their biggest screw up had to be omitting the gyro mount on the Torque Tube option, only to screw that up worse by putting a flimsy L bracket to mount it to the base tail boom structure...which would vibrate on the lateral axis and cause drifting by the gyro.

too bad the whole thing seems to have just died...

BTW my CNC is now programmed to make a slightly different V2 version of the HD bottom frame
