Actually, it is according to what you said about "if it weren't for the AMA..." If it weren't for the AMA and the use of the Muncie facility, IRCHA wouldn't exist as we know it. In fact, the actual event might not even exist at all.
That's not true at all. IRCHA can be put on at a lot of fields. Triple Tree could host the event. It was in Columbus for a lot of years and I went to it back then. The AMA field is a good venue for the event but it's not the only one.

Well, guess what? Right now, if at the beginning of August and the AMA ever said, "Nope, you can't use our field." for some reason? Then there'd be no IRCHA event that year...exactly because of the AMA... Hell, it might even die off completely. It's already dying off and we've not even begun to see how this FAA BS will affect it.

I've only missed one IRCHA in the past 15 years. Due to 9/11, I missed the 2001 event. To the best of my knowledge, the event has grown each year. I would have bet that attendance would have been low in 2008 and the following few years due to the recession, but I dont remember attendance dropping ...only growing. I've learned that people always find money for their hobbies. The AMA will always welcome IRCHA, the nats, dog shows, car shows, etc. as they currently do. Each event is an income generator. So I doubt IRCHA 2016 would be in jeopardy. I do believe the AMA membership will fall due to the FAA and recent events. However, they will find a new avenue to generate income. Maybe they can secure more advertisements for the magazine LOL.

If the FAA gets super froggy and insists sponsored team pilots who get compensated in any way for flying are "commercial operations", it's as good as dead and gone along with a whole ton of other events.

Unless something more drastic comes from the FAA within the next few months
and the model aviation world just 'implodes', I think IRCHA will be, and be
just about as normal.

If FAA does nothing more than this reg. thing for now, I believe this will
blow over, everyone that was going to reg. will be, and be back to flying
as normal (excluding the SFRA crap going on in the NE).

BUT, if that crap DOES start to migrate to other areas of the country, all
bets are off!
