The FAA made it easy, get two sticks of butter and a balance scale, if it weighs more than two sticks of butter it needs to be registered. Cops will be carrying two sticks of butter in their holster next to their weapon. Better hope they grab the butter and not the gun and shoot first ask questions later, oops.

I always loved rc cause it was a great way to keep out of trouble and enjoy myself, now they are trying to take the joy of rc away to put us in crosshairs and make us out to be bad guys just trying to enjoy our free time. These are sad days for me. Already hearing of police harassing clubs and modelers for no reason or probable cause whatsoever. Ugh.

Under the terms of the Act, a model aircraft is
defined as “an unmanned aircraft” that is “
(1) capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere;
(2) flown within visual line of sight of the person operating the aircraft; and
(3) flown for hobby or recreational purposes.”
https://www.faa.gov/uas/media/model...t_spec_rule.pdf

in other words - Any remotely controlled device that flies.

capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere;
Helicopters models should be exempt for this reason alone.

IT DOES NOT SAY MODEL AIRCRAFT MR PRESIDENT OF A CLUB, JERRY K., why is that so hard to understand ??? The FAA is staying away from including "MODEL AIRCRAFT" because they know they can not go there....

"Q19. Updated: I would like to fly my Radio/Remote Controlled (RC) aircraft outdoors, do I have to register it?
A. Yes, RC aircraft are unmanned aircraft and must be registered online if they weigh more than 0.55 lbs. and less than 55 pounds."

Where is the word "MODEL" ? it's not there now is it ?

Just remember " Model Aircraft " and the congress law passed: aviation reform act that contains section 336 and see what the law says about "MODEL AIRCRAFT"and LOS flying.....

Under the terms of the Act, a MODEL AIRCRAFT [size=huge] is
defined as “an unmanned aircraft” that is “
(1) capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere;
(2) flown within visual line of sight of the person operating the aircraft; and
(3) flown for hobby or recreational purposes.”

And BOYS was not a typo sweetheart....

from what I just red on the faa website if u click on what is to be registered it does not show any type of heli, just quads, if you look at the model aircraft section it looks to be unchanged, it does leave some questions. its showing if its for hobby purpose then it does not have to be registered , the way I'm reading it. its pretty unclear but it looks like we just keep flying as usualBrandon

I think that, if you still have questions, you should go to the FAA website and read it for yourself. Don't rely on a web post.

https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-20.../2015-31750.pdf
and

https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-20.../2015-31993.pdf

The rule applies to ALL aircraft flown outdoors that weigh greater than 250grams and less than 55lbs.

Unmanned planes larger than 55lbs will require registration as a general aviation plane experimental class.

The quoted article specifies UAS and Model Aircraft. I think looking for loopholes is only going to get you a fine of up to $27,500 and loss of your aircraft. Flying in the wrong area could land you in jail for up to three years.
