-- FAA update meeting!

Fwiw...

There will be an AMA/FAA update meeting at the Ontario Convention Center in So Cal..
I would urge as many as possible to attend the meeting starting at Noon next Sunday. We need the FAA to see how seriously we take their overreach, especially regarding the situation in the DC area.

Thanks,

John.
Hi...
At the request of several forum members I am asking any and all modelers opposed to the FAA overreach but not able to attend the AMA meeting next Sunday to add a comment here. I will print out and hand deliver a copy to Rich Hanson and Mr. Gibson of the FAA.

Thanks in advance.

John.

I fly all RC types... planes, bipes, sail, helicopters, multi-rotors, gliders, FPV, autonomous.... I am doing the same activity with the radio every time that I fly. I enjoy them all and don't think that I should have 8 different "licenses" in my pocket depending on the aircraft that I intend to fly.

If you don't fly a particular type of aircraft... I don't respect your opinion when you talk trash about it. They all have their good and bad points.

All of this FAA activity has to do with the intent of the pilot. I don't know how you determine who has negative intentions, but the guys that have been flying RC for years generally are of good character and don't present a problem. Why lump them with everyone else who opened a multi-rotor box on christmas morning. Even those guys usually don't have bad intentions, just not much knowledge of what is acceptable. They can be taught right and wrong.

RC Pilots are not criminals, stop treating us like we are. I live in the DC SFRA, where was the due process needed to shut down all our RC airfields? "The Only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

I began flying RC in 1969.. I have been a member of the AMA since day one..during all of those years, I have followed the rules, and have not had an issue... I fly heli's, planes, quad racers and 3d quads... under our current club rules and the AMA's policies, I cannot see why this FAA registration should be imposed on us.. The people that have and will cause possible problems, are not the ones that will register, or follow any existing rules..

AMA member number 5180.

The registration requirement for ANY radio controlled aircraft over 0.55 pounds, with no other sound or reasonable criteria, is truly an overreach on the part of the FAA to control essentially anything that flies.

The registration rule as it currently stands, violates section 336 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, wherein Congress denied FAA the authority to issue ANY rule or regulation regarding Model Aircraft.

"Model Aircraft" as defined therein consists of THREE criteria:

1. is capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere
2. is controlled by an operator from the ground who maintains visual line of sight contact with the aircraft,
3. is operated solely for hobby or recreational purposes.

If the model meets all three of the items listed above, Congress has expressly forbid FAA to regulate or promulgate rules governing its operation.

Further, section 336 identifies that Model Aircraft are operated within the construct of a Community-based organization. In my case, that organization is the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

As a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, my aircraft currently are individually labeled with my name, address, and my unique AMA number. I fly within the safety code as published yearly by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, and teach others to do the same.

My flight operations take place from an already designated Model Aircraft flying site, from which flight operations do not interfere with, nor present a danger to manned aircraft.

Model Aircraft flown in accordance with guidelines published by the Academy of Model Aeronautics do NOT pose a past, present, or future danger to manned aircraft operations.

The FAA, in its proposed rule, has cast an exceptionally wide net in an attempt to regulate ALL model aircraft, in spite of existing law.

The rule will NOT make the skies more safe, and will NOT stop rogue operators or those with evil intent, from carrying out their deeds. As has been demonstrated time and again, registration only shows who the law-abiding citizens are; registration does not identify the bad actors.

Weight alone as a trigger for registration is an unworkable and absurd criteria. The trigger should be based on CAPABILITY -- targeting aircraft that are capable of GPS or other navigation aid guided flight, that have some level of autonomous capability, and that can be operated beyond the line of sight of the principal operator.

The current interpretation of the "Special Rule for Model Aircraft" (FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 -- Section 336) is currently being litigated and as such, the FAA should restrain from its attempts to bypass that law and that litigation.

Very succinctly put; really highlights the issue of the lack of thought or caring by our overlords..that we pay.

Basically count me in as a +1 for dkshema. I could not add or subtract from anything he just said.

As for providing my name/AMA #'s? Half my issue with this registration thing is privacy. If you really need it, I can PM it but would rather be discreet and just go with Aaron29 forum member and they can trust that I'm a represented person.

Here's my voice! ..
Ya know, after all the crap I’ve read in the Forums and in News Websites about “drones” recently, I have to admit, I’ve been a bit upset that the Hobby I’ve enjoyed all my life has finally reached the point of disruption, and being regulated by the Government because of a bunch of ne'er-do-well’s.

FINALLY, I feel a lot better! Dang near ecstatic!

Although I now have to register myself, and my legacy RC Stuff, with the FAA, that’s ok. I know can behave and play by the rules when I’m flying.. I always have. But for those who cannot.. here’s a little something for you!

http://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-t...anti-drone-gun/

Exquisitely designed, small, easily transportable, shoulder mount operation, short range, efficient, and cost effective for Law Enforcement.

For those bigger issues, with active monitoring and optional interdiction of a much larger area, there is a more eloquent solution. It seems the Brits are a bit more aggressive about this drone situation than those of us in the States. They give you this!

Watch at YouTube

For more information, please see their website here.. http://www.blighter.com/products/bl...nce-system.html

Ruggedized construction, scalable, early warning with active tracking and interdiction. Non-lethal deployment and operation, and able to gather and record evidence against the offending operator(s). Designed with the Military and large Government or Civilian entities in mind. I also understand that COTS Pricing is available..

I have to tell you, I’ve actually seen a few of these units mounted to HMMWV’s and other Tactical Vehicles here in CONUS. I had NO IDEA what I was looking at, and did not ask. Now I know.. (and knowing is half the battle! Go JOE!!) I'm sure that there are many more being operationally tested now that the SHTF.

Suffice to say, Uncle Sam is obviously serious about security, and a bit fed up with all the drone BS.

Enjoy!

AMA S.C. does not recognize 400' outside 3 mile zone of airport,
FPV is not (c)(2) within the VLOS of the person operating the aircraft
