I'm agonizing over renewing my ama membership now at the new price. We are in the process of buying our first home and I have neglected and put off so many aspects of my hobby I enjoy so much. I remember discarding my renewal notice a few months ago Our club requires AMA membership so I will be joining again regardless of the cost.

You're agonizing over $34?

Life's too short to agonize over the cost of a movie outing, man. Move on.

Ama website shows $75 or $78 I think it was?.. I assumed because I did not renew I would have to do a new membership.

Was like 58, now 75. Two years deal would be 116. Instead he'll pay 150.

If you wanna split hairs over the 78 vs 75 be my guest. Still doesn't change my point.

Let the small stuff go.

The way around the dues dare I say is to become a contest director and run or co -CD events in your club or sister clubs. After two events the dues are cut in half.

For $37.50. I'll let someone else CD. Even if you value your time at minimum wage that still wouldn't be worth it.

Not trying to offend. It's just not my thing even if it made my dues free. You may like to CD, but to me that'd be a nightmare. Trying to make everyone happy, dealing with all of the details, solving problems that arise, etc. Some volunteer for things like this. To me it's hell. I'd rather not.

To each their own. One man's heaven is another's hell, as they say. Reminds me of 8 years ago, I had a friend who told me when I was planning on getting a dog that I'd be unhappy, I'd have to entertain it, pick up after it, it'd shed all over the place, blah blah blah. He said "you don't want a dog."

I got the dog. Eight years later, getting the dog was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Point is, to him, having a dog is hell. To me it's heaven. Similarly, while some may want to CD, others would avoid it. Neither person is wrong.

And no, CDing isn't supposed to be a way to make money. But I was responding to the post that suggested it was.

The math was directed at you, but not the "let it go" part.

The $34 was the difference in two year cost of AMA between taking the two year deal and missing it.

The "let it go" was directed at the jack agonizing over having not taken advantage of the deal when it was offered. He missed out, but it wasn't like he forgot to play winning lotto numbers. It was $34...$40 tops. Not literal pocket change, but close to the type of money we find in the laundry.

I'm sure he wasn't truly agonizing, just using hyperbole.

I can assure you of this, in my lifetime, I have not found $30 in the laundry. Yeah, a meal or two out, not the end of the world, but that money is a lot to some on a fixed income.

I have an alternative plan... just fly multi-rotors, you can find free places to fly them that are legal and enjoyable. Cha Ching, savings $75.

AMA should be able to see this.

At the end of the day. I can't grasp folks beefing about AMA Dues. Figure what your gear costs. Most all of us will not hesitate to buy a $100 dollar plus case of fuel but ball out to Jesus if regular gasoline is over $3.00 a gal Lolol sooooo we can't sock away $6-8 bucks a month for AMA Dues? Reliable Batts for E powered ships can get pretty steep as well but we jump on those when needed. The CD comment that I made was pretty much to say that it's an option and although for many it's not for them it's actually easy to do and the AMA recognizes the time you put in. It's a matter of monitoring an event as an AMA Representative too ensure safety and a few other things. For me it is by no means difficult to do since some of these clubs already have event coordinators. But, I hope everyone understands that AMA is not required if you're playing on a non AMA sanctioned field or a non AMA event with the exception of non flying AMA events like AMA Expo.

Peace n Love to All;
Eaton
