1776 is a year that needs to be revisited by the government spending time, paying attention

What Say You.
Scenario: My vehicle is destroyed and burns to the ground when a large scale plane flown by a fellow AMA pilot hits it. We find out that he is not registered with the FAA. Further, he does not own a home or have renters insurance.

I assume that AMA refuses to pay because this pilot was breaking the law while flying the unregistered aircraft.

Is this possible? Who pays my damages? At this point it looks like my auto insurance. Is this a good reason to require the FAA number to be shown and recorded by the AMA clubs?

This is just posing a question...

Most insurance policies you can look up the terms. Who has bothered to do this for the insurance provided by AMA? Not you. Not I. That's the problem with how we handle everything AMA. We just cozy up to our insurance company and assume all is fine.

if I had a legit claim, and got nothing back, then the "insurance" part of my AMA dues is pretty pointless. Only is required to fly at a Sanctioned AMA field, and if its not a requirement by my club, why would I even do it?? for the magazine? (nope)

I don't have a problem paying 58$ a year because it allows me to fly AND I think I am getting some insurance but without that second part..... It becomes less valuable and yep I do feel like were getting not enough for our money. Especially with the slow or non response we have seen with the AMA this spring.

Could it be the AMA is shooting itself in the foot here?

Just another demonstration that you have NEVER been an AMA member...because of your lack of knowledge of the AMA.

Where did you come up with $58/year?

It's $75/year.

No offense, but yet another example of those that claim to be AMA members...but are not.

Come on...get real....fact checks...doh!

Where is the month to month AMA plan? If I die today, do I get a refund for the remaining AMA membership? Two years in advance... I don't bloody think so.

There used to be a group trying to start an alternative to AMA. If that group still existed.. I would fund them, in addition to the AMA tax.

Your mileage may vary.

Mr. Heli I hear you and Gray bird too but if I want to fly at fun flies then I must pay the pied piper and the savings goes to the Nitro man. I have no real love for the AMA/FAA consortium.... and the savings keeps the fundage OUT of their pockets... eh

Aaaah yes, the SFA (Sport Flyers of America). They unsuccessfully sued the AMA. After losing that court battle, they disappeared. It was around 93-94 if I remember right.

I don't remember their entire argument, just that they were offering an alternative to the AMA. At this point, unless the FAA's rules can be removed for legitimate Model Aircraft, no other organization, AMA or otherwise, will get much traction in this whole deal.

You really need the Back Stop Insurance if you are a Home Owner.

If you are a TENANT or a RENTER ?? as either a Victum or a FLyer it can get WILD : One has Nothing to Loose and the OTHER could have Lot's to GAIN .

NON OWNERS ??? Then turn loose the Legal System

Think if you are a By Stander - In a City Park and you get Clobbered ?
Where do they run ?? Wild Combination's !!! are possible !!! With IT or With Out it ?

How to PAY to SAVE a FLYING SITE ??

Break down of Ethical Absolutes and Accountability /Responsibility

Liability 1st fall's on the Individual - Then it fall's back to the Liability provided { NOT by the AMA } but to whom every " they " have issued / awarded the contract too.

On your OWN initially - Accountability

It's RUTHLESS because the Liability Carrier - set's "their" COST { of Contract } based upon risk assessment -
based upon past history frequency of Claim's actually payed out.

DATA: AND they are ENTILED to Make a PROFIT for their RISK $$

( As I understand it }
LOSS CONTROL MANAGEMENT or SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT : Bunny FACTOR

LOT Going On that many can't grasp - They won't either

Their are MANY that are questionable in the SPORT -SORRY

I have just never understood why my homeowners insurance should be my form of insurance for flying model aircraft. It seems like we should be able to buy a rider on auto insurance policy.

Driving seems to be a much more similar activity than sitting on couch watching the boob panel. I really dread the day that I turn in a claim for modeling.

As the hobby progresses and more professionals start insuring the activity, maybe we will be able to purchase RC Aircraft liability insurance. Some of the photo guys are asking for collision insurance. The cost of the cameras can far exceed the aircraft. All boils down to the risk and cost/benefit analysis.

It may come to the point that the FAA requires "Real" insurance for our aircraft.
