I've seen the new 2.0 firmware fly in person and I can say it's simply amazing. Everything I've been able to get out of my buddy flying it he said it's like a whole new flybarless system. Totally customizable.

Ben;

I have long assumed the FBL s/w was very simple or primitive consisting of three independent PID loops for most brands. This is of course not the way to do it. So I assume that Futaba found some modeler who was also an aerospace control systems engineer type of guy to sort of pro bono work on this s/w ? Was it done in Japan or the USA ?

I take two banks and one model and make it park in hover like you can't hardly imagine and then be as fluidly or aggressive in aerobatics as anyone would care to fly or anything in between. Basically you can tune your model to feel exactly as you wish.....and quickly and easily.
so, does this make sense:

Fluid feel == more like Flybar machine

Aggresive feel == More Robotic/linear/computer feel

Richard,

Futaba Japan engineered this in house working closely with Nick Maxwell. This project was NOT farmed out. Designing and executing a flight control system to meet the demands of the current marketplace is an incredibly challenging task.

I honestly can't remember how exactly to describe a flybar feel. Flight Style parameter is the main tuning basis for feel. The higher the setting, the more robotic the feel and the perception that the model is locking into each new heading. Lower and the model moves from point A to point B more lightly on the stick though it holds a given position just as well. Control Authority tunes the response to stick input by adjusting how quickly the model reaches the set cyclic rate (d/s). There is even tuneability for situations where the disk is highly loaded to preserve linear control feel. You'd use HP authority for this.

Treat Stop Tune as you would D gain. Notes are in the instructions.
Treat Head Hold as you would I gain. Notes are in the instructions.

All defaults are pretty darn good, especially those for Control Authority and Style.

PLEASE NOTE:

The CGY750 has long had the swash detail menu to precisely tune out eCCPM mechanical interactions. We STRONGLY suggest you take the time to use this menu as it makes a well flying system fly that much better.

Dr Ben,

Is the new version 2.0 that much better than v1.4. I have two models set up with CGY750s using v1.4 and simply love the feel they give. I am very reluctant to change the software and find that the feel had changed to something I was not so happy with?
Make the update. I guarantee you that you can make 2.0 feel exactly as you wish. Tell me what you want, and I'll tell you how to get there.

It's there!!

http://www.futabarc.com/software-updates.html

The ZIP file has the V2.0 software manual in it.

Dr. Ben - is this real, should we be ready to push this code to our 750's ?

It seems odd that things like battery fail safe voltage and governor tuning options are only available if you enable f3c mode? Is that correct? (Last two manual pages)E820, Raptor G4N, X50F/E, E620, Forza 450, and some planks.

Don,
For the e gov, the correct use of response rate is tied to the pole count of the motor in use. You input the pole count of your motor, and the correct response rate is automatically set internally. There are two bank switchable low limit idle ups and of course you have adjustable governor gain.

Dr Ben,
can we get a better explanation.

-HPoleEP: For Electric motors 8 poles and above -LPoleEP: For electric motors 6 poles.

Is this just a telling the governor to count rise or fall in a train pulse? If so this would help detect over-driving the motor. Why is it tied into poll count. You input the poll count anyways. I can see it just rise vs fall, don't get why its tied in with poll count.

I like what is in the banks (nice).

●StopTuneA ●StopTuneE ●CYC.Rate ●EXPO ●GV.Gain ●LLMTLrpm ●LLMTHrpm

Thanks

The response capability of the motor to commanded rpm changes is related to pole count. Choosing the correct pole count range which corresponds the motor you're running tells the system which response rate to use internally. Doing it this way simplifies set up over the previous version where guys often selected the wrong response rate to the detriment of governor performance.

so, i updated my gy750 to version2 and all i was set it to 3d mode as instructed, coming from v1.4. right from the start, it felt smooth and not as twitchy. doing fff towards strong winds didn't make my heli balloon like it did with v1.4. i like to do big air maneuvers and lots of fff
the only difference i noticed is that my heli seems to want to drift very slittle to the right in a hover. what can i do to fix that? other than that, it's alot better that v1.4 and i highly recommend upgrading right away

i also forgot to add, with the v2, the heli piros better. it stays more flat than it did with v1.4 installed. i read before whith the v1.4 that it could be tuned better for piro's but i never did since i don't do piro maneuvers often

rolls are more axial too. in forward or backward flight, there is no correction needed to keep the heli going during rolls

Dr. Ben - few quick questions.

-Are the setup cyclic pitch recommendations (SWS.Rate) in the 2.0 manual a starting point? Or are they something that should be measured precisely and left at the specified deflection in the manual?

-Is it still recommended to adjust D/R (for pit/roll rate) and cyclic expo from the CGY? Or can we use TX adjustments as well?
