Disturbing to watch.
I question the tactics. They should have tazed him as soon as he turned around to walk away. Just seemed it could have been handled better.

Sorry, but upon second viewing, I changed my mind.

WC - check the dude out. His hands are in front of him as he walks away ignoring calls to put hands up. Then he turns around. Then he lifts his shirt, reaches for something at waist, with a gun pointed at his face. Holy cow, who does that? I had to see it again as I thought he'd been shot in the back. But he hadn't. He was acting strangely and got himself shot.

It's only when he's lying in a pool of blood that we see his headphones and no weapon. It's just too easy to second guess the cops from the comfort of my couch. But as soon as I put myself in the situation, it looks like he did exactly as his training would mandate.

You could tell this cop wanted that kid to pull through. We need to go after the bad cops. Finding fault in normal police work is just witch-hunting. This cop is probably already ruined from this experience. Why burn him at the stake?

The boy who cried wolf situation, ya know? If you find fault with every police shooting, second guessing every event with perfect 20/20 hindsight, from a comfy couch, pretty soon people will just assume you don't care about justice and just have a vendetta against all police work. There is a such thing as a justifiable shooting. Denying that every time a bullet leaves a cop's gun doesn't work. Keep doing it, then what credibility do you have other than just being anti-cop?

This is terrible for all parties involved. But still, how would you replay this scenario? I thought about that taze him in the back thing a little more and it is just an unrealistic expectation.

Shocking him was a good choice but that string only stress a few feet
And they need to be close enough for it to discharge properly some folk body is highly Electrolux so they become reisitable to shock.
This will be fatal for a cops if the suspect is arms.

I support ridding the world of lunatics 1 bullet at a time I grantees
We won't be having this discussion a few year from now.

I thought about that taze him in the back thing a little more and it is just an unrealistic expectation. You'd be asking an officer to lower his protection on a fleeing suspect who may be reaching for a weapon of his own. This is an unrealistic expectation to expect an officer to lower his protection in order to use non-lethal force to meet potentially lethal force from the suspect.

Upon reconsideration, I see why this is NOT a tactic, after all.

This just sucks all around. Poor kid. Poor cop. But I see no way to replay these events or change tactics that won't end up with the unwanted consequence of many dead cops. They deserve to go home at night.

So from all the comments I just read looks like the only thing to do is:

If you see a cop get ready to drop to the ground immediately or you may get shot.
If you see his gun it may be too late
spending time, paying attention

Well certainly don't pull a Clint Eastwood by raising your shirt and reaching into pants like you're pulling out your gat. Put your damn hands up.

The best action to take is to do what the LEO is asking you to do. Even the chip on the shoulder LEO's will not not just shoot first unless there is something to make them think you are going to try to do something to them.

Problem I see is today to many people think they can do as they want and ignore the cops commands.

This is not them abusing there powers it just what they have been conditioned with all the riff raff they encounter doing there job. See if you can get a ride along with you local PD and see first hand the crap they have to deal with each day. you would be surprised at how much dis-respect they get.

Yup, no sudden moves, and if you need to reach to get something, ask permission first and inform the cop what you are doing. Above all else, *FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!*Friends don't let friends become electrotarded . . . .

There is NOTHING any of us needs to reach for important enough to take a bullet. NOTHING.

My "move" is to freeze and make no moves. With hands up. Let him move you and just go limp. Even if it hurts. Sounds like a bad date, but this will keep you alive.

Seriously if his gun is drawn, I'm not worried about if he's right or wrong, or if I was guilty or innocent, I'm just going to survive.

Survive to have your day in court.
