Mr. Gibson didn't give us anything, did he?
God I wish it were 2004 when I started this hobby. Things have changed for the worse. Almost irrevocably.

I LOVE this hobby, but where is it going?!

The look on Bob Brown's face said it all. This dude owned them. The AMA should have had either a Salesman, poker player or a real good attorney up there instead of Bob.Part 107.

Join the fight against the FAA and Support John Taylor's lawsuit
Here's how to help with funding: https://www.generosity.com/communit...work-legal-fund

Here's the background: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngog...stration-rules/

Focus on this from Mr. Taylor:
While I'm confident that we can knock down the "drone registry" there will be bigger challenges to our hobby ahead. Ultimately, we need to ensure that we preserve and improve the limited protections of Sec.336 in Congress. I think a Bill that does that, while increasing and clarifying penalties for those who fly irresponsibly, could have broad appeal.

I suspect the FAA is working behind the scenes to eviscerate Sec. 336 as we speak. I'm sure it galls them to accept that they've lost absolute dominion over something that flies.
There is strength in numbers and the AMA isn't challenging the FAA because they want to continue this tenuous working relationship at the expense of members. We need to enlist a legion of protesters. Modeling isn't the problem.

I can confirm that. I have been very willing to put a bit of faith in the AMA and there willingness to make things right. Well BIG FAT UGLY FAIL on my part, the AMA is a MONSTER sell out to the faa. I had conversations in Dec. 2015 and it was made clear to me yes the faa is breaking the law, they are bad bla bla bla bla. Now as of this week I was told flat out that if I did not register I WAS BREAKING THE LAW. The faa is the almighty, resistance is futile............. WTF ama. They were leading us to the slaughter. So YES, we need to do this on our own. I am done with the ama.GOT FBL?

Blame the AMA for not being able to stop out of control Government over reach by an appointed Government official who's accountable to no one?

Gee, next thing you know, the President will be writing his own laws and ignoring Congress and the Constitution to reach his own delusional end-goal.

Oh, wait, that's already happening.

What I am reading, and said is, "I am blaming them for not even trying". No worse, actually selling out to the faa.

So I guess the whole "if you cant beat them, join them" applies here....

Problem is when they took the job of representing the modeler. You cant as a representing organization back hand the ones you claim to be representing.
Then not be surprised when the ones you claim to be representing, get a LOT pissed?

Fwiw...
After calming down a bit, I want to comment on this meeting as an attendee.
Having sat through several AMA/FAA meetings, one of the things they all had in common was the obvious indifference shown by the FAA personnel present to any remarks or concerns raised by the audience.
This was no different. While I respect Mr. Gibsons' service to our country, I am embarrassed by his inability to even pretend he was interested in the proceedings. Our own leaders gave the impression that they were defeated, and voiced nothing that was not generally known prior to the meeting. In short, almost anyone in attendance could have donned a suit and replaced any person on that stage with equal or better effect.
Perhaps the worst aspect was the inability of either side to clearly define tne muddled aspect of the 400' rule/guideline/regulation.

Walking away with a permanent mental facepalm, I feel I will register prior to the deadline absent any further communication from either side, but am going to demand answers from the AMA regarsing what durther actions they will take. I made it clear to Mr. Brown that inaction is unacceptable.
As far as the 400' debacle, I will go on record as saying I am registering with the disclaimer that I do not recognize this limitation as stated, and will not comply.

John.

drdot,

John, thank you for sharing your show experience with us.. in a way, your impressions, are what many of us are looking for, truth without the BS added..
I also agree with the potential earlier registering, and will most likely wait till early next week, just to see if they do, as they said they would, and change/clarify (fat chance) the 400' ceiling..
I do think the AMA was at least trying to cover itself, and members, but clearly the FAA just ended up doing only as they pleased, and dropped any input the AMA, and members had suggested.. sux that we are going to be "lumped" in with the idiots, but that is just the way our government has been operating as of late..
Again, thanks for sharing your info, it has at least helped one life long modeler!!!
