After thinking about this more...

My big issue with this is the potential for getting sued.

The database is public...all it would take is for some clown to put your info in a drone and say it hit them causing them some sort of mental anguish. From there you have have to prove it was not yours(time and money).

There is absolutely no way to link any of my RC stuff to me via serial number on the primary components like you would with a fire arm. Any person who does this is asking for trouble.

I believe this entire thing was very poorly implemented.

What I would have suggested is for all airports (and other places people should not fly) to register and continue to register (kind of like a do not call list). From there companies like DJI would put out software that would expire every 6 months grounding the multirotor in the process. From there the user would be forced to update which would include an updated no fly map with altitude and take off restrictions. They have to put this on the vendors and if they do not comply then ban or severely tax their imports.

People always hate it when big brother steps in but they only do it when there are too many instances of stupidity documented. This could have been an issue a long time ago but due to the difficulty/cost of the hobby most clowns stayed away. Now that its cheap and very easy to get into many more have invested (new markets, new pic and vid perspectives available to the masses) and statistically it is expected for there to be more issues.

If it comes to the point I can not fly at a sanctioned AMA field with only my AMA details then I'm done with this hobby.

It almost begs the question - MAYBE this is being done to Kill-off the 'Hobby' side.
THEN all you got left is the "Mindless 'Drones'"...

Dude (revmix) you really bring forth much negativity towards AMA and fellow runryder members for those of us that want to stand shoulder to shoulder with the AMA and fight against government overreach. That goes for h-splatter as well. You two work for the FAA by chance? I haven't seen this pushed back at you guys for wanting to register so how about giving us a break?

AMA (way down the list)

You are certainly welcome to your opinion, however, I think that this is the wrong fight. Effort is being wasted on this instead of the real issues. 45,000+ seem to agree. I guess the offer of free overrides the AMAs request. Have a wonderful holiday and good flying weather.

45,000+ is probably just the sales from this holiday season, Best Buy and other retailers now must register buyers before they can make the sale. This is even more staggering and scaring when we consider these numbers. The salesman boasting of the video said they have sold many, many DJI "drones" this season.

Our local Best Buy has video footage of their display model flying over major interstate highways, crowded retail parking lots, and entrance/exit ramps. This footage is displayed across their 4K televisions across the showroom floor.

What a great sales pitch. "You can fly dangerously for a $5 admittance ticket, just like our inexperienced home electronics salesperson did in this video. Will that be credit or debit?"

FYI, the guy that flew to record the footage had never touched an r/c model of any kind in the past. He simply used his smartphone and the DJI straight out of the box.
Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Amen to the above, you left out guns
Stay vigilant my friend, 45K signups may not be real...Obummercare did the same thing and was all a whitewash (can I say that?)...lmao
I personal do not trust anything from our bureaucrats one bit. Taking a stand whether we win or loose the battle is where it begins and we appreciate any support/cheering/etc for us remaining folks holding firm in our position and beliefs.
Weather is freaky here in Va, mid 70's, drizzly, wife and I did target shooting instead of flying.
Merry Christmas to you!

This is the next development in the Drone Wars, primary homeowners insurance will issue exceptions for Aerial Appliances. Thanks DJI.

this whole thing stinks...

I bet a lot are contemplating giving up and finding a new hobby...

Its gets any worse and even more shops will close up and the hobby will starve here in the states.

The situation will be the same world wide. It's already worse in some EU nations like Italy.

If homeowners excludes, then AMA becomes primary insurance under the membership. One 1/4+ billion $ group civil suit against the AMA will end them.

As Terry just noted to me, there will have to be some kind of rider to palliate the liability exposure.
