My Raptor 90 with a Hanson 300/Zimmerman muffler
Got a chance to have Jeremy shoot a video to show the setup with the raptor that I have. Its using a Hanson 300 motor with a gear ratio of 6.77. This motor is designed to have torque to push through this gear ratio and it can swing 716mm blades with 12.5 degrees of pitch and "run away" to 2030 rpms duing a full power climbout when the gv-1 is turned off.

Note that this is my "big fat" raptor (heaviest gasser I own) weighing in at 14 lbs with a full 16oz tank of gas, and it includes my Jewel generator system with 3 superbright LEDs and a voltmagic battery monitor.

The weather was overcast and some wind, wasn't really the best day to see the heli movement in the sky (blue skies with clouds would help show speed more) but you could watch and see the rotors holding their head speed during most of the maneuvers due to the torque of the engine. The temperature was in the low 50's, Jeremy said 48 in the video but even when I got home and it was dark it was still 50 at home. I'm figuring about 53 at the time of the video for reference. I did talk and explain stuff in the video, turn it up and listen during the video to see what I'm doing.

I did do power up and power down (hard collective) as Tom showed and there are no wa-wa's as you said Tom in your post (but its missing now you edited it out I guess). You had asked me in Rochester last year how to get rid of them and I explained the setup, I realize the gv-1 may not be as user easy to setup you need to know how to do it properly but when done you can see it does really well for an old governor that works just as well as the rest of them.

By the way this is a muffler not a tuned pipe, there will always be even more power with a tuned pipe but the noise will be unbearable for me - remember I have to sit there and listen to it day in and day out as I fly all the time, so less power and quieter is better than more for me. The zimmerman is hands down the best for my ears, the most pleasing to listen to without that louder tone and the most power in the muffler category.

Here is another video with some 3D

Watch at YouTube

This heli is not the best 3D heli as its mechanical mix and not as precise as my Whiplash with is direct servo to swash ccpm, however it does get around and is fun to fly nonetheless.

My Whiplash currently has my Hanson 2703D Max motor in it. If I was to put this engine in it being 1 pound lighter with a full tank of gas it would be even more power than this. Someday when I feel like it I'll move the motors around and show you guys.

I have to use 716mm blades with this engine, if I was to use 695mm blades the engine would run way most likely over 2200 rpms at full collective with 12.5 degrees and would be in danger of overspeeding the head.

Autorotation
Here is a short little video showing a 3D aerobatic autorotation, hard to see it well with the cellphone camera, but gives you some idea of the auto capability though there are alot more tricks I can do. On the way up I turned off the governor and what is not shown on the video here is that the max rpm registered 2080 on the gv-1. First one recorded and read was 2030, so average 2055 rpms with 12.5 degrees of pitch, Hanson 300, zimmerman pipe, rail 716mm blades, and not tuned for max power (with needles) -- left them as is as the heli is flying great.
