Probably the same as me. I think I checked the "no media" box on my renewal. I hate spam, so I pretty much default to this with companies. I miss out on the 2% of emails that are worth my interest.

JUST GOT MY REGISTRATION.
The website was a bit clunky... give e-mail and make up a password. They respond with an e-mail that you click on to open the second step. The e-mail verification took about 15-20minutes

The rest of the registration process was a breeze. Name, addr, city, state, zip.

Agree to a couple of safety rules and enter credit card info. They gave me a registration # immediately.

It is not a serialized registration number. Sorry AMA, but when you finally get to my issues, maybe then I will fall back in line.

DO NOT PAY IT!
These money grubbing FAA slackers are looking to generate revenue and once they get it going its going to be like freight train, get on or get run over.

I mean I believe in following rules but this is just a small start to something big, that stupid number that they give you to put on your models reminds of how nervous I got after AMA required us to place our names and addresses on our helis, I was waiting for some psycho to show up at my house!

Who is to say that one of these mischievous(idiots)wont swipe your number and place it on there models.

Oh my what a credit that could be run up on that persons name!
Face it, its money the FAA wants, because clearly they have not put a single thought into it, they do not give a **** about anyof us because once you get put into some data base your SCREWED!
ALL for the public to see and for real criminals to abuse, hahahaha, technology just screwed us, sorry I meant to say perverts(drone users).

I have followed these type of threads on 4 sites. AMA requested that we stand down as members. From what I am seeing we either have a lot of folks on these RC websites that "are not" members or just don't give a damn about unity with the AMA or their fellow flyer.
That right there will allow AMA a way out by simply stating that the membership did not support our efforts and therefore the FAA has turned their backs on us and walked away from any and all negotiations.
Simply amazing, simply a sad day in the RC community.

Maybe some of us have good reasons to disagree with the AMA and choose to let this be a small voice of discontent. It is not the guys, that is for sure.

In the end, everyone that gives a darn about flying will have to register.

I don't understand being discontent then siding with the FAA.

So how are they going to enforce 400' altitude, why not make it 200' or 600'.

And I find it interesting that it states "rules" and not laws.

We made up some rules now give us your information and credit card number so we can have some of your money.

I have disagreed with the AMA's negotiation position from the start, basically AMA said we have been doing it this way for 80 years and we are not about to change anything. Then they ran to congreass (sp) and got a rider on the FAA re-authorization legislation of 2012.

The legislation had a huge glaring safety loop hole written into it through which the FAA flew a jumbo jet. There is a new sheriff in town now and he has a hell of a big stick. Now we need lawyers to fight everything. We have to abide by the big boy rules and penalties. AMA gave no ground and the sheriff took it all.

What a pickle. The more we fight the FAA, the worse it is going to get. So, I think that this is not the fight worth fighting. (registration)

Christmas is a few days away. We have almost an entire month to register so I'm waiting until the last day and I'm interested in what the AMA says regarding this situation.Delayed Response Operator Not Engaged

Hold off on registering. I spoke to Tony Stillman (AMA Flying Site Coordinator)for an hour on the phone today and the AMA is moving forward and making some progress with the FAA. I would wait until after the New Year at least. The conversation was very illuminating to say the least and as everyone has surmised the FAA doesn't have a clue. One thing that did come out of the conversation is that if you give up your AMA membership some of our current capabilities as defined in Part 336 of the FAA Modernization are not available to modelers who are not AMA members. Things such as the capability to fly Turbines, models over 55 pounds, fly over 400' and within 3 miles of an airport or at an airport and fly models that travel faster than 100mph.Delayed Response Operator Not Engaged
