TL;DR

from the UAS registration Q&A:
Q. What is the definition of a UAS? Is it different from a drone?
A. A UAS is an unmanned aircraft system. A drone and a UAS are the same for registration purposes.
from the press release:
…for owners of small unmanned aircraft (UAS) weighing more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) and less than 55 pounds (approx. 25 kilograms)

Owners using the model aircraft for hobby or recreation will only have to register once and may use the same identification number for all of their model UAS.

The registration is valid for three years.
The normal registration fee is $5, but in an effort to encourage as many people as possible to register quickly, the FAA is waiving this fee for the first 30 days (from Dec. 21, 2015 to Jan 20, 2016).

if it ain't broke, break it.

Your Section 336 Law is not worth the paper it is printed on and far less than the pixels to display it.

Do you actually think that the Fed government is going to sue the FAA? So the moment you win a judgement... the Fed Government just strikes the law and all that lobby money you spent just went up in flames.

The 336 Law also has a glaring loophole for safety. If you read today's decision, it is quite substantiated with actual violations causing the safety issue...

This is going to be interesting to see what sort of compliance rate will result from this action.

While it is probably reasonable to have a registration for airborne systems used in commercial enterprises, doing so for aircraft that are used in hobbiest situations for personal enjoyment is not reasonable.

You have literally hundreds of thousands of R/C pilots being effectively "punished" due to the actions of a very small minority.

Government in its most pathetic moment.

Oh come on Elmo... How is flying an RC aircraft a right? Care to quote to me the section of the constitution that mentions "rc helicopter"?

I'll be waiting.

The socialist government rant is just comical. You might want to go read the actual definitions of Socialism, Communism, Capitalsm, etc... Or better yet, go talk to somebody who grew up in the Soviet Union (I know many from work) they would laugh you out of the room if you think our system is socialist....

4. Model aircraft
This rulemaking includes the definition of the term “model aircraft” as it appears in
section 336 of Public Law 112-95. Thus, in this IFR, “model aircraft” means an unmanned
aircraft that is (1) capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere; (2) flown within visual line of
sight of the person operating the aircraft; and (3) flown for hobby or recreational purposes.

so if it flys and weighs more then .55lbs it's gonna be registered...

table 4 is a good read too.

Yes, unless the registrant chooses to provide the FAA with the
aircraft’s serial number. Whether the owner chooses to rely on
the serial number or affix the FAA-issued registration number
to the aircraft, the marking must be readily accessible and
maintained in a condition that is readable and legible upon
close visual inspection. Markings enclosed in a compartment,
such as a battery compartment, will be considered “readily
accessible” if they can be accessed without the use of tools.

I don't have to quote the constitution.
Its my RIGHT to be happy! its a human right.
but if you need a person to tell how to think
life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, that's in the Declaration of Independence, if your not sure what that is, look it up.
I'll be waiting.
Keep begging for your almighty government to keep showing you the correct way you should live, it wont be much longer

You might want to REALLY learn the HISTORY of WORLD governments.

But you wont, you will stay blinded by your own ignorance, good luck with that!

oh by the way I had FAMILY that lived thru the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and Mussolini. So thanks but I am good. This government is not....

????

I do apologize if you think I am lashing out. I am not. I can't respect anyone who blindly follows governments or groups, we should always question the ones who lead. If you choose to ask or demand for leadership, you have to be kept in place or absolute power corrupts absolutely. I dont care who you are or where you came from.
