Only completely correct answer...? I don't know.

Are you counting 450s and smaller?

I suppose you are asking which helis are most seen at flying fields and which are the best selling? That may not be the same as which are the best "liked" helis.

Not counting the little ones, I would have to say Align by a factor of at least 2. Just a guess.

Who are on the list of contenders?
-- Align
-- SAB
-- Synergy
-- JR
-- EFlite/Blade
-- Gaui
-- Mikado
-- Thunder Tiger

450 and up in sales.
It has to be Align. I see a ton of them everywhere I go. I see parts and kits for them in hobby shops that really don't even cater to the heli crowd. Funny too - I don't own a T-Rex. Never have.
450 and up in quality.
Yea. That's going to start a fight. You're likely to get more opinions from reps than facts.

The truth is, there are several really good choices these days. In this modern day and age peoples opinions of a helicopter sometimes comes down to not so much the machine itself, but instead its parts support. For instance I still love my X-Cell Tempest but I don't think it has a place in this thread. Same for Thunder Tiger's products. They are loved by many but TT is in the DH (Dog House) right now for distribution problems.

SAB/Goblin is loved and respected but they're electric only. They are well distributed and seem to be very high quality machines.

Synergy has to be near the top of the list. Matt and Amy make great models and they are well supported. If you want a 50/90 glow heli is there any other choice?

TSA is loved by the people I know that fly them but they have parked 'em because parts don't exist.

JR's newest offerings are showing up more and more and seem to be well liked. There is not a lot of discussion here on their forum suggesting they don't have many issues. Unfortunately they are not as well distributed and not as mainstream as some others. Google "JR Forza Helicopter" and you won't find many places that will let you add-to-cart.

The list is pretty long of really great helicopters that are a little hard to find and come with more sketchy support. They might be the best "quality" helicopters but not as popular and without parts, not really contenders.

Just some personal thoughts.

Thanks Bill for the breakdown..
I have always used Align. Maybe because they were the one to have when I started (2007) and as you stated the availability of parts. But now I want to try something different. The Synergy E7se is a looker.

Based solely on this question with no other modifiers, the answer is easy. Horizon/Blade. They sell the most helis overall hands down.

While in the past Align would have won volume and sales value, I would guess SAB has easily overtaken sales value now and possibly volume too.

Got to keep up with the times or you will get left behind....

goblins are too expensive and too fragile the fly excellent
aligns are less expensive and 3rd party parts and upgrades
align parts you can even get for free.

It's Align by a big margin. Next up would be Blade if including micros.

Mikado probably comes after blade.

SAB ain't even close!

Thunder Tiger were close to Align but not anymore.

You just have to look at the post numbers for the different manufacturers here on RR.

Go to the other forum and to on line retailers and do a reassement on align and SAB kits, part availailability and activity. One has release almost nothing new in the past few years, the other one seems to introduce something new every few months. Around a year ago Align raised distributer prices 20% and lost some good retailers.

I own and fly both brands.

Sorry it's still Align. SAB might be up and coming but they are simply not as big as Align.

Probably the factory in China that everyone goes to have their stuff stamped and milled, then rebrands them to make us think they are all different when it's mostly the same stuff with a different box.

If you are speaking in terms of current popularity I would say SAB takes the mark. And I think that is mostly due to the fact that they are the only ones that are really actively pushing product right now. If Align was as active as they used to be, I don't think SAB would be as popular as they've become lately.

They are doing great and their product is awesome, but they don't do much more than offer e-heli kits and blades and their stuff's not cheap. Even their blades which are can be fitted to other brands, are markedly designed to perform best with SAB machines.

If you are speaking soley in terms of product variety, parts availability, and the end user stand point of how many items per brand the average pilot has in their household (biggest), I would say Align by far.

This is simply because Align stretches out much further than just making helicopter kits and parts. They also offer servos, ESCs, regulators, FBL controllers, engines, batteries, starters, blades, etc..all stamped with the "Align" logo.

Align has the market so saturated that even if a pilot's never owned an actual Align heli, it's highly likely that any pilot that's been active since 2006, owns, has owned, or will have owned at least one Align product during their flying tenure over the past 10 years and in the foreseeable future.

Although Align has been quiet lately (except for quads), most of their products are still available, affordable, and popular among the heli crowd. They still maintain a presence at most big events around the world. And many of their products can be used on any other brand out there...not just Align's stuff.

That's not even counting how many original Align design concepts have been copied or cloned.

Without seeing their company's books, this is all just a matter of perception.

But whether you love Align or hate them...new pilot or old pilot, there's a good chance you have been affected by Align and how they changed the hobby. They made the hobby cheaper, easier to access, easier to learn, all while offering more variety and options than I've ever seen. I think Align has been the biggest driving factor for change in the hobby in decades.

At the rate things are going, within five years we'll all be flying the exact same helicopter and your choice will be red or yellow....and it must be registered before it ships.
