Any chance this was originally published on April 1, 2015? Oops, I see it was published 11/29. Still looks like an April Fool joke to me.

We should be grateful to have these corporate sponsors with deep pockets to help sort out our issues with the FAA. This is going to happen, so it is a matter of finding out when and how.

I look forward to getting a package of prescription medicine a half hour after I place the order because I was too lazy to do it in a timely cost effective manner.

Go for it Amazon and Best Buy...

Well, I had a few reasons I considered the video a joke. 1) The over-hype tone of the whole thing, but true they didn't glue a workman to it and lift him. 2) a scissor jack type device to load the package 3) the package looked like it was about 1/4 the size needed to hold the shoes that were supposedly being delivered. 4) a 15 mile radius from an Amazon distribution center. What to the other 99.9% of us do? (Hopefully that was round trip from/to the distribution center, otherwise we need to recharge it for them.)

The limit on weight - range is the main reason this whole thing seems so impractical to me.

I can assure you that the effort is not a joke. I have no idea how "real" all the particulars are. I would expect the aircraft is the real thing, as is the 15mi range discussed, but maybe not the loading mechanism (could be, though).

I also don't know about the landing zone. It seemed to be wired up on the fence too. There are a lot of hard problems, but there are some might sharp folks solving at least some of them.

If you harbor some doubt that it is all a joke, go to linkedin.com and search for Amazon Prime Air. I would assume the results represent a small fraction of the team.

oops, bounced it!

Looking at the size of the yard and the Landing Area from that video, the aircraft looks to be about 5' across and 5' long, which means it can easily transport packages of heft. It's real and it's soon to be dropping off packages in rural areas, I'm sure, provided your home can accommodate the correct size and slope Landing Area.

Look at the size of this thing!!!

Yeah, that shot shows that it's pretty huge.

Maybe it can haul away my neighbor's yapping mutt while it's in the neighborhood.

oops, bounced it!
