Yes. Assuming you have head gain set to GYRO2 in the Function Menu, simply assign a switch in the GYRO menu. One position will be AVCS (heading hold), the other set it up for NORMAL (rate) mode.

Thanks for the help. That is the way I have it now. In the BD 1. RC screen, the options for channel assignment only go to 8. Does this matter? In the transmitter's servo screen with the bar's, the bar does not flip for channel 9, when I throw the switch SB which I selected for GYR02.
Still can't get it to work. The model is a Chinook, using the TANDEM swash plate type option.

No.
Sorry but there is no normal mode for the head. Only hold mode (RIGID).
If you have a 3SX, it has two other modes which are self leveling called Horizontal mode, and rescue, which is called Horizontal plus collective mode.

Did you read the special instructions for Tandem rotors?
It treats the Yaw stabilization as Tail, even though is using both rotors. This is adjusted through channel 5 (tail gyro, or Gyro 1) and will have the option to chose Rate or Heading Hold, so you can adjust the swashplates to eliminate asymmetric stabilization.

You can however, set the head gain on a switch of knob to vary the head (roll and pitch) stabilization, or turn it off if so desire.
I do not think it will work as GYRO2 using the Futaba gyro feature though
