my one and only flight in an Astar was when I lived up there.

Yea Roy, I remember you telling me that, who knows we may have crossed paths and not know it
anyway, I did the belcrank mod to my mechanics and raised the rotorhead up about an inch. looks much more realistic now.

Raising the rotor head, simple as it sounds was a little of a challenge. the original main mast has a collar(more like a ring) permanently secured to it just above the upper bearing block. I first wondered why a regular collar secured with set screws wasn't used then I found out why. the collar would hit up against the elevator bellcrank during for/aft cyclic movements. I had to remove the arm and install a separate arm to clear the collar I used to secure my longer main mast.
raising the rotor head height wasn't all, I raised the swash plate as well which meant making longer pushrods from the bell crank to the swash which meant a longer 2mm screw in the "A" arm of the elevator bellcrank/anti-rotation arm.
more work to come.

Wow. awesome mods. I wish I had the talent and the patients. I have been having a tough time getting the correct pitch range on my 700 Astar compactor mechs. Looking at your photos, did I see a bend in the elevator servo control rod? I can understand how this would help with these's mech's but doesn't it twist under load?. I would really like to talk about the linkage setup. Maybe I can email.

not much of an update, I am redoing my clutch modification, I came up with a much simpler way to do it and I am also putting a scale rotorhead in place. pics to come.

got a scale head on now. reassigned the servo layout to adjust the phasing (swapped aileron and elev) so the pitch rods are vertical.

Hi Manno, looking forward to seeing your new clutch mod on these mechs. Also, that's a nicely detailed starflex head, I had this head on mine also. You made the right choice upgrading the control rods and ends. The stock set up was a tad on the light side.

yeah me too Barry. Yup it looks pretty neat I think, it will look even better when I paint it. the ball ends that came with it were nice looking but you are right, they didn't seemman enough for the job. the links I used were from traxxas car stuff.

Racking up time on the mechanics and so far so good, but in the meantime in between time, the fuselage gets some work table time.

mechanics are flying very well, very smooth and very fast. the starflex head handles just as well as the century head did.
after converting my friend Roy's compactor mechanics for his bell 429 to a clutch while still keeping the motor in the original location, I re-did mine to be the same way. much simpler now.
worked on the side bay doors on the fuselage today and will be making a new set of tail rotor blades tomorow

fixing more stuff on the fuselage. outlined the windshield in black, going to cut the lower windshield frame to look more accurate. original opening looks too goofy with the lower area cut too high.

Hi Emile:

Don't you just love it when you see something as obvious as the shape of the window being incorrect and it would have been so easy to correct it at the source? My MH-6, like my CH-139 before it, will also be getting major door and window corrections like yours. Nice going so far.

Don
