I think you all are getting off the subject of the primary reason this hobby is in trouble... the very fact that individuals are able to fly Non LOS, GPS guided aircraft...

I strongly agree that even more technology is not going to solve this problem...

come to think of it, it could make things worse... here is why:

just using this to flip and show you all how it can make things worse (no offense helimech):

Automatic dependent surveillance – broadcast (ADS–B) is a cooperative surveillance technology in which an aircraft determines its position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked. The information can be received by air traffic control ground stations as a replacement for secondary radar. It can also be received by other aircraft to provide situational awareness and allow self separation.
So given the ability for others to hack technology... some a-hole will like,y try to get the system to do just the opposite and allow self collision...

I think the solution is more along the lines of licensing of aircraft bound GPS/NLOS systems... and leave the rest of us LOS toy flying man-children alone.
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

ADS-B will be required only in controlled airspace. There are still places that are "uncontrolled".

Yeah, like I want to spend many thousands of dollars to fly my unmanned aircraft into another manned or unmanned aircraft causing loss of life and property. Anything, anything can be made into a weapon. There are far cheaper methods to shoot down aircraft. The hobby is larger than your 0.49cox control line mustang.

I am hoping that the FAA will allow hobbyist that are properly equipped to venture and explore. We are not terrorists. The system needs to be robust for all.

I see this as being first to be clamped down on. Heck, even GA has to walk on eggshells because the FAA caters to commercial operations. The FAA will have even less consideration for a modeler wishing to explore.

If they do anything at all, it'll be a pay to play type thing with heavy focus on commercial UAS use.
